Karpova: Sanan Sjugirov dominated the U14 section at the 17th European Youth Championship 2007 just like Nyzhnyk did in the U12 section but somehow doesn't receive as much attention: http://www.euroyouth2007.com/boys/9...
He scored 8.5/9 with the runner up having 7/9.

Karpova: Another great perfromance by Sanan Sjugirov winning the Femida 2007 Men's cup with 8/11 points against an average rationg of 2465 http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail...

He was a full point ahaead of the two runners-up and didn't lose a single game.

Btw, chessbase says he was from Ukraine but he plays for Russia http://www.fide.com/ratings/card.ph...

Nov-22-07   Tomlinsky: Good grief. Check this 14 year-old's play at the Femida Super (2007). Has he undergone Sicilian implants? Extremely versatile for one so young, thoroughly absorbing games.

Karpova: World Youth Chess Championships 2007 U14

Sanan Sjugirov won ahead of Marcel Kanarek (from Poland) - both had 9.0/11.

Jan-29-08   Maatalkko: Is this the prodigy who was profiled in The Chess Artist? Or is that someone else?

In that book, there was a Kalmyk child aged seven who was responsible for some incredible achievements. He was well-rewarded by Illyumzhinov for his talent and effort.

Feb-26-08   JCHallman: Maatalko,

Yes, this is Sanan from my book. I google him every once in a while to see how he's doing. Glad you made the connection...

Karpova: Interview with his trainer GM Andrey Zontakh: <Between Sanan's tournaments we have meetings of 10-12 days or two weeks. During this time I come to his place every day and we spend plenty of time analyzing opening theory, the games we have played, some concrete or typical positions. While preparing for the next tournaments we are training with a computer and learning chess literature. Sometimes Sanan goes to Samara or Tolyati where the famous coach and GM, Yury Yakovich’s games are taking place.>

percyblakeney: Sjugirov is playing well in the Russian Championship, four wins in five rounds, against players like Inarkiev and Kurnosov (both in the 2660s).
Nov-28-09   hellopolgar: is it me or he looks like he has some Mongolian/Chinese/Asian genes?

can't tell anything from his name, but i wouldn't be surprised if his grandmother is , say, Chinese.

Dec-20-09   Troller: <hellopolgar> Kalmykia is situated in the Asian part of Russia. Check out pics of FIDE president Iljumzhinov as well.

It will be interesting to follow him in the Russian Superfinals, I suppose this is his first test in such a strong tournament.

mysql: Excerpt from interview with Wesley So:

Do you have a personal coach?

Wesley So: Unfortunately I don't. But I think that the moment is coming: I will need it soon. I would train chess with <Sanan Sjugirov> with pleasure for instance. He is my age. The only problem he does not speak English.
