Member since Sep-30-02
I've been playing for many years, but only seriously for about 10. I prefer positional play and some of my favorite players are Reti, Petrosian, Smyslov, Karpov, Larsen, Vaganian and The Master: Aron Nimzowitsch.

My favorite active player is Vladimir Kramnik.

AgentRgent: <pbercker: I just realized who he is! .... It's of course professor Kennneth Regan> ;) Well, I actually told you that a while back e.g.: <Apr-12-13 AgentRgent: <pbercker: http://www.cse.buffalo.edu/~regan/p >... Interestingly enough Ken is a kibitzer here at ...

   May-05-13 A Zatonskih vs I Krush, 2013 (replies)

AgentRgent: I watched the game live and Irina was amazing...toward the end you could see Zatonskih was feeling the pressure, but Irina was cool (although I was freaking out when she made the time control at move 40 with a mere 13 seconds on her clock!). Unfortunately since the game went so ...

Apr-19-13 Ponomariov vs Caruana, 2013 (replies)

AgentRgent: I'd like to see Pono win this. I have nothing against Caruana, but I always root for Pono after the shabby way he was treated during the Reunification match vs Kasparov...

AgentRgent: <Absentee: Nope, I got it right. Anand drew Gelfand in the match and won the rapid playoff with a +1 score. Carlsen won the candidates on tiebreaks.> Why is Carlsen's "win on tiebreaks" a <"win"> yet Anand's "win on tiebreaks" a <"draw">?

Apr-01-13 Ivanchuk vs Kramnik, 2013 (replies)

AgentRgent: <fisayo123: I don't think such a "forced draw" exists after 1.d4 Nf6.> Not for Black obviously, but if White is content with a draw, it's extremely difficult (read risky) for black to prevent it.

suenteus po 147: <AgentRgent> Thanks for the great game. Can't say I look forward to our rematch, since you show a bit of Nimzowitsch's creativity and more than a bit of Petrosian's precision in the endgame. Perhaps I will have to play a bit more like Tal!

AgentRgent: <suenteus po 147> Thanks to you as well. I was surprised you resisted transposing to a more conventional Sicilian when I gave you the opportunity. As I'm not really a Sicilian player by nature, I thought you might have been able to press your 1st move advantage a bit more. Though I stand by my maxim... "I consider the Sicilian to be a refutation of 1. e4 on positional grounds."

As for my endgame, I am rather proud of my play, although it was the middlegame tactical sequence that I feel won me the game.. That's probably the best I'm capable of at my current skill level, and it made a huge difference in the game. Additionally, I really have found my endgame skills have improved a great deal analyzing a lot of Kramnik's games.

I look forward to an exciting rematch.

Feb-09-08  A.G. Argent: <AgentRgent> Sir, I feel the need to inform you that the similarities between our user names is extremely coincidental and that I was in no way, shape or form trying to exploit, plagarize, rip-off or imitate. This is an alias e-mail address I've had for years. I see that you have been a member a great deal longer than I and even though I've been playing chess most of my life, I'm a ChessGames rookie, relatively speaking, and defer to your seniority and thousands of posts. I write this now because I just recently saw a post of yours for the first time and went to your forum and thought "uh-oh, maybe better clarify a bit" because the names are so similar but........could be you hadn't even noticed my periodic nosings about. In any event, sorry. I doubt the accidental likeness would lead to any confusion anyway. I ain't got the analytical prowess you do, I'm just a chess junkie in a cardboard box who, within this site, likes to watch, listen, admire, marvel and pipe up once in a while with my cheap two cents. Again, sorry. ( And if you ain't a "sir" but a "maam", again with the uh-oh.)

AgentRgent: I just had a neat position come up in a blitz game... Not terribly difficult but I felt good that I found it quickly.

Black to move.

Jan-18-09  AnalyzeThis: Well, my friend AgentRgent, you prefer positional play, I prefer tactical. I was intrigued by your position, and suppose that you enjoyed playing the move ....Rd2+. However, among the other winning methods available, I find ...Ba3 to be the most amusing and interesting. For example, 1...Ba3 2. Qxh8 Qb5+ has a sense of justice about it, with the queen having vacated control over b5.

AgentRgent: Yep, Rb6+ is the move.

My opponent, perhaps taken aback by the move, as well as time trouble of his own, let me finish the game with a nice flair.. 1. Rb6+ Kg5 (Kf5 holds out longer) 2. h4+ Kg4 3. Bd1!

Well that was a truly beautiful game <GM Kramnik> played yesterday.

He left no doubt- no doubt whatsoever.

Seemingly out of nowhere he brought down <Carlsen's> position = an ensuing king hunt and mating net in which <Carlsen> would have had to give up his Queen for a Rook and a minor piece in order to prevent it.

I have spent several hours this morning with my chess engine already trying to figure out the complexities of the Middle game to the Finish.

Ok then thanks for your patience.

Impossible not to be thrilled by <GM Kramnik's> play in this case.

Oct-26-10  LIFE Master AJ: I saw your header.

I understand Nimzowitsch was your favorite player.

I have written numerous articles on this player.

I respectfully submit this page for your enjoyment: http://www.ajschess.com/lifemastera....

If you liked this one, let me know. (I have done a few more as well.)

Oct-26-10  LIFE Master AJ: For all the players who stated - a while back - that Kramnik was "done."

Look at some of his recent games.

Kramnik,V (2780) - Shirov,A (2749) [D16]
Grand Slam Final Masters Bilbao ESP (2), 10.10.2010

I download the latest games from "TWIC" faithfully every week. I also add games "by hand" from the U.S. Chess Magazine ... and many other sources. I also try to visit all the websites and download the PGN files of all the latest tournament games.

Since about 2007, I have about 750,000 games in this database.

Searching it for ONLY Kramnik's recent wins, we find the following list: Carlsen, Aronian, Mamedyarov, Naiditsch, Ponomariov, etc.

"Impressive, MOST impressive." (Darth Vader - in <Star Wars IV>.)

Nov-02-10  LIFE Master AJ: < Nov-02-10 AgentRgent: Just an editorial note... at http://www.ajschess.com/lifemastera... In the intro to the Matisons-Nimzowitsch game you state: "<Black> resigns before he has lost a single pawn." Obviously you mean White, furthermore you may wish to clarify, perhaps with "before he is down even a single pawn" rather than "before he has lost a single pawn". The latter is a bit unclear as white has had 2 pawns captured.

Other than that, a nice page, thanks for sharing.>

Very nice "word-smithing," I may do exactly that.

Thanks for the compliment as well.

AgentRgent: I have to say I'm pretty pleased with my play in this blitz game. My opponent and I had played several previous games to a draw, so this was sort of a tiebreaker. Hopefully someone with an engine won't rip it to pieces...

AgentRgent: Just got back from the US Championships in St. Louis. What an awesome club and experience. Got to speak with Jennifer Shahade, Sunil Weeramantry, and Irina Krush (who was extremely gracious and accommodating!) The only thing that would have made made the day better was if Rusudan Goletiani had prevailed.

Unfortunately I won't be back this year, but I will certainly be back in the future!

Playing precise chess at the highest levels is like walking a tightrope. Isn't it enough that the walker reaches the other side? Must there be a fall for it to be exciting?>

Hey, like that one, man. Good seeing you around.
