Arcturar: If an anti-whatever-nationality-you-are rebel government seized power in your country and started doing things like freezing out your language and culture, you'd be worried too and would want out.

Arcturar: @1300patzer: I was lenient about them in the Candidates, but now it is really starting to grind my giris too. Sorry 'bout that, haha. At least it wasn't another joke about Giri drawing. I agree that those became annoying a wile ago.

   Apr-10-16 Sergey Karjakin (replies)

Arcturar: @HeMateMe: Give me a break - all competitive athletes use whatever legal enhancers they can get to maximize performance. Karjakin is not naive enough to blame a few misinformed athletes for the general industry trend, whether it is right or wrong (also not his business to judge).

Mar-28-16 World Championship Candidates (2016) (replies)

Arcturar: Yeah, the more I think about it the more pleased I am with the outcome. Karjakin winning here is the biggest middle finger anyone could have given to Norway Chess and the Grand Chess Tour. Not inviting Sergey to Norway after his back-to-back wins there was a disgrace, and the ...

Mar-10-16 Muzychuk - Hou Women's World Championship Match (2016) (replies)

Arcturar: alexmagnus: If they were strong enough, they wouldn't have to be satisified with anything less than they wanted. Ie Fischer. Even more so, since strong enough women can totally win Open category prizes. I think it's a lame excuse for being weaker.

Jan-30-16 Tata Steel Masters (2016) (replies)

Arcturar: @Alex: I think number of Black games is the first tiebreak, and Carlsen would win on that.

   Dec-29-15 Qatar Masters (2015) (replies)

Arcturar: Congrats to Carlsen! Also, it is one thing to make a mistake when discussing ratings, but quite another to continue to do so after ignoring a detailed discussion. How are people still going on about this??? Mostly familiar faces too... I won't bother reposting my thoughts, since ...

Dec-17-15 London Chess Classic (2015) (replies)

Arcturar: Great example beatgiant! You're definitely correct - these guys aren't appreciating the continued difficulty in maintaining a high rating even if (especially if!) it is achieved early on in the year.

   Oct-05-15 World Cup (2015) (replies)

Arcturar: What a fantastic, fighting match! Massive kudos to Karjakin for making it through the pressure, and somehow surviving endless must-win situations in a row. Simply amazing mental fortitude, regardless of the blunders that started to creep into both fighters' chess. I consider ...

   May-26-15 FIDE Grand Prix Khanty-Mansiysk (2015) (replies)

Arcturar: Also, I admit to being biased and liking Anand a lot. Another rematch would bring him closer to Botvinnik-level in the undead department, and would be a pretty amazing addition to his legacy.
