Apr-05-08 King's Gambit Declined, Falkbeer Counter Gambit (C31)

Auggie: According to G.M. Neil McDonald in his book, The Kings Gambit, white has good winning chances in the Falkbeer, and as a result, it is rarely if ever played at the highest levels these days. Personally I prefer either the Modern Defense with 3...d5 or the Fischer defense with 3.. d6.

Who the fork hasn't seen the Tromp?
Not even the point. The fact is that if they are forced to play against it they don't have as much of a well versed book line to reinforce their play.

Auggie:
I rather think that the Tarrasch is an excellent opening since it immediately turns a closed game into an open one which most queen pawn players disdain, else why open with the queen pawn ? Most players I have faced would much rather see some dull, run of the mill Kings Indian.
