|Jul-06-17|| ||Annie K.: OK folks, congrats to the winners of the previous leg and good luck to everybody, even though that is statistically impossible. ;p|
I will update the Announcements section with the events to be covered this leg in another day or two. :)
|Jul-07-17|| ||Boomie: This is undoubtedly old news but what is the point of allowing people who have already qualified to play? Are they ignored in the leg standings? Their bets skew the odds and if they win, they take chess bucks that would otherwise be available to the real players.|
|Jul-08-17|| ||FSR: <Boomie> So you're saying that <sydbarrett> and I shouldn't have been allowed to play in the last leg, since we had already qualified for the next championship by finishing in the top 10 in the last championship? That's insane! Why should <syd> be denied the opportunity to win the leg? Why should I be denied the opportunity to become the only player ever to finish ninth in two consecutive legs?|
I think you could make a better argument that when people who've already qualified for the championship do so again, additional spots should be opened up so that in each leg 10 new people qualify. But that argument has been made before, and chessgames.com has rejected it.

That's a bit harsh, no?
After all, the Chessbookie game is not only about who qualifies and who wins, it's about the fun of the process itself too.
Some people might even consider that fun to be the more important part.
|Jul-08-17|| ||User not found: Cuddlebumps only sings when he's winning, lol.. But this.. |
<<Why should I be denied the opportunity to become the only player ever to finish ninth in two consecutive legs?>>
Yeah yeah yeah! Revolution number 9! That paragraph just made me chuckle as some of Fred and Syd's accidental comedic chemistry often does :)
And I came 11th last leg #gutted
|Jul-08-17|| ||Penguincw: <Boomie>
<cg> addressed the topic of allowing "top 10, excluding previous qualifiers" before: Chessgames Bookie chessforum (kibitz #8724).
Personally, I like it too, but <cg> (and others) gave good (better) reasons why the current system of just "top 10" is best. Read a few posts before that above lniked post for more discussion.
|Jul-08-17|| ||Boomie: Thank you all for your responses.|
|Jul-09-17|| ||sydbarrett: I usually win when I start a leg rock-bottom and then rise like a phoenix a few weeks later. This good performance early on is a bad sign|
|Jul-10-17|| ||FSR: <sydbarrett> I guess then I should be delighted with my third-from-last standing.|
|Jul-10-17|| ||sydbarrett: I don't guarantee you will finish top place, but starting off low could help Fred. The desire for redemption may fuel a great rise.|
Not sure why I keep winning at this game, but I seem to do so everytime I play. In my very first leg ever I felt so gifted because I was on top up to the very final day, but, if I remember correctly, the seasoned Jedi Quythug[sp] sliced me down to second place with his last move. That was a vitally important experience, and I've learned from it ever since.
|Jul-10-17|| ||sydbarrett: On second thought, maybe I didn't provide much useful advice there. Do remember that the loanshark can be a very powerful ally for a person in your position|
|Jul-10-17|| ||FSR: Thanks, <syd>. I'll try to keep my chin up.|
|Jul-10-17|| ||Diademas: Being the least sucsessfull chess gambler in recorded history I want it to be known that all players, good or bad, should be welcommed in each seasons.
It is after all just a silly past time. If anyone feels their chance of saving $29 is in jepardy, let me recomend paid employment.|
|Jul-11-17|| ||sydbarrett: I wish the gift was an Amazon certificate, but I love chessgames.com too! How about better membership and a little Amazon spending money. :))|
|Jul-11-17|| ||sydbarrett: Actually I play for the glory of being remembered in the Hall of Chessgames Bookie legends. I do mean that. Worth more than $29 easily. :D|
Enough yapping for me for this month, gl.
|Jul-13-17|| ||FSR: Wow, I actually won three bets! First bets I've won in this entire leg.|
|Jul-13-17|| ||User not found: That's why you're here singing, Cuddlebumps lol. I'm only joking with you but a lot of truth is said in jest. |
48's on a WDD ticket!? I had my lucky 6 cb's which saved me from the basement.. I don't want to share a room with Big Pawn from the rogoff page, lol.
|Jul-13-17|| ||WannaBe: 50cb on my distant cousin Wang to win Dortmund 2017! Wheeeeee.|
|Jul-13-17|| ||sydbarrett: As for me, I'm not totally in jest. If you challenge me bro/sis, I accept. I'm being challenged right now|
|Jul-15-17|| ||sydbarrett: FSR back from the dead, stalking me|
|Jul-15-17|| ||FSR: LOL :-)|
|Jul-19-17|| ||bubuli55: I hope bookie would add the three other games for separate bettings. Those are the games that can go either way.|
|Jul-19-17|| ||Annie K.: Hmm... the player pool is still smallish, but at least there's plenty of time, given that tomorrow is a rest day. OK, why not. :)|
|Jul-20-17|| ||sydbarrett: This one is starting to feel tough. I will keep trying|
|Jul-21-17|| ||WinKing: <sydbarrett: This one is starting to feel tough. I will keep trying>|
