Seventh ChessBookie Champion of the World (2013)
and the first non-qualifier obtaining the title (starting with 1000 bucks).

Thanks to merciful help of predecessor <SwitchingQuylthulg> who voluntary gave away a big lead.

Switchs sporting way of looking at things:

<I'd probably have stopped at 66K if not for <Chnebelgrind>, but with him gaining ground fast and badly wanting the top spot it just didn't feel safe up there. And I still think I made the right decision> (moronovich chessforum)

Probabilitiy of the outcome of a chess game:
column 1: ELO difference from whites point of view
column 2: probability of a white win (%)
column 3: probability of a black win (%)
column 4: probability of a draw (%)

This are benchmarks which are to adjust in a given case.

Players younger than 20 usually are underrated, players over 45 tend to be overrated.

With Bilbao score, Sofia rules or other similar regulations the probability of a draw declines.

The probability also depends of the type of player, the tournament and the current state of a tournament.

In chessbookie game I set the sum that don't lower the value V of an invested buck under 1.1

V = product of the probability that a result will turn up and the projected payout

Normally I don't set more than one third of my funds.

put at its simplest by <Sneaky> on the chessbookie forum Jun-24-08: <The key is to always look for odds a little better than they should be. And you can't bet too much on any single ticket, or you'll ruin your own odds>

Chnebelgrind: <Penguincw> You are vigilant! Yes it was not that bad, but I had some other tickets which didn't pay, especially in Pick3. The DDD always is taken by <Switch> who meanwhile seems to be beyond reach. On his forum you can find his note: <I should end up around c$33K>

• Total losing pool = c$12304
• Losing pool minus juice = c$11689
• Losing pool split into three parts = c$3896

• Winning pool 1 = c$3991
• Winning pool 2 = c$1309
• Winning pool 3 = c$523

• 10 * (c$3991 + c$3896) / c$3991 ~ 19.762
• 10 * (c$1309 + c$3896) / c$1309 ~ 39.763
• 10 * (c$523 + c$3896) / c$523 ~ 84.493

Chnebelgrind: Hurrah! I made it correctly.

<better at Bookie maths than Bookie gaming> To cook up 20 kilo in one round - that's what I call big gambling! It doesn't bear contemplating when such a thing will work one day

ChessWriter: I've been doing well these past six months intuitively following a similar strategy to these quants. I didn't realize you guys took this stuff so seriously! BTW, betting on chess games makes watching them live so much more exciting!

Chnebelgrind: <you guys took this stuff so seriously!> I think there is only half a dozen who invests time to calculate the odds an to set serious bets day after day.And in the end normally it is a long shot that decides the matter.

Chnebelgrind: Thanks <Switch>. What I was most afraid of down to the wire were your bettings! But as I have seen lady luck did forsake you at the end. Sorry for not posting a lot last time. I have realized, that discussing with competitors was not good for my fortune. But I was lurking all the time on yours and <dakgootjes> forum. And it was not always easy to keep silent, for example when you were explaining my betting system to our funny fellow <MarkFinan>. :)

Heartly congratulations,champ!
First Cancellara and now you ;)
As I saw it, you made it all the way from 1000 and not 10 K !? Am I right ? And in such case I am even more impressed.
Enjoy your day and wellearned status.
And see you at the final !

I made a fine profit at the real bookies betting on Svidler-Ivanchuk combined(125:1).

Chnebelgrind: Thanks <moronovich>. Yes I did start with 1000 c$. All the more I am happy about the result.

Congrats for your win at the real bookie! It's quite optimistic to set on a combined loss of Carlsen and Kramnik! But the quote does justify it and so does the result :-)
