Sep-23-17 Aronian vs Ding Liren, 2017 (replies)

CountryGirl: At the end, black's bishop has few squares. White's h rook has little mobility, but black can't get his f rook active because the h pawn is attacked. Hard to see how to progress.

Sep-20-17 Ding Liren vs W So, 2017 (replies)

CountryGirl: Reminds me of Andersson or Karpov. Except they usually won these as white.

Sep-10-17 Bu Xiangzhi vs Carlsen, 2017 (replies)

CountryGirl: Bu-bye, Magnus!

   Sep-09-17 F Vallejo Pons vs W So, 2017 (replies)

CountryGirl: What a crush. I sure wish my opponents would play stuff like 4.g4 against me!

   Sep-07-17 R Rapport vs Wei Yi, 2017

CountryGirl: Horribly embarrassing. If you are not prepared to try to make something out of playing white in a classical chess game, why the hell are you at the World Cup? These guys all want to reach the blitz. They might as well be playing craps.

   Sep-06-17 World Cup (2017) (replies)

CountryGirl: How come there are so many short draws in the classical games at the World Cup? I understand monsters at rapid and blitz wanting to get to the speed games, but wouldn't it be in the interest of the (relatively) weaker players to fight all-out with the White pieces?

Aug-19-17 St. Louis Rapid & Blitz (Blitz) (2017) (replies)

CountryGirl: Respectable showing by Kasparov. In blitz his natural talent can shine, with less worry about latest theory wrinkles. Karjakin must have worked on his blitz - Fabiano perhaps should do likewise...

   Aug-11-17 M Vachier-Lagrave vs I Nepomniachtchi, 2017 (replies)

CountryGirl: 7...Be7 is almost a blunder, isn't it? The books recommend 7....h6 to prevent Bg5, as fisayo notes. Am really surprised Nepo wouldn't be aware of this (or does he know something we don't?)

   Aug-11-17 Sinquefield Cup (2017) (replies)

CountryGirl: Agree with you, JPi. I was also pleased to see how well Anand played. The man is twice as old as So, and almost twice as old as Caruana and MVL. I understand Vishy works out physically most days, and we all know his computer prep is legendary. But it is his strong, natural style

   Aug-06-17 I Nepomniachtchi vs Nakamura, 2017 (replies)

CountryGirl: Glad Nepo is on the board with a win. I'd hate to see him get discouraged.
