   Nov-19-09 Keith Arkell (replies)

FHBradley: Since when have 1 e4 c6 2 d4 d5 3 e5 c5!? been known as the "Arkell-Khenkin line in Caro-Kann"? I learned on my mother's knee that it's the Botvinnik-Carls variation, or defence, or gambit.

Nov-18-09 Keres vs Verbac, 1933 (replies)

FHBradley: The funny thing is that, according to the chessgames database, Keres and Verbac played almost exactly the same game six years later in Berlin, the only difference being that in that later game Verbac resigned after 14 Qh6+. He had learned his lesson.

   Nov-14-09 Robert James Fischer (replies)

FHBradley: Perhaps Jinky will turn out to have some of Fischer's character traits?

   Nov-12-09 Mikhail Chigorin (replies)

FHBradley: Happy Birthday, Gospodin Mikhail!

Nov-11-09 Reti vs Capablanca, 1924 (replies)

FHBradley: How does one tie half of one's brain behind one's back? If it takes that to beat Capablanca, no wonder there were so few chess players who could do that.

   Nov-08-09 Dutch, Stonewall (A95)

FHBradley: Because that's a different variation of the Dutch Stonewall.

Nov-08-09 Wendel vs Nimzowitsch, 1921 (replies)

FHBradley: <Wheb did Nimzowitsch write in Spanish?> He prepared an abridged version of "Die Praxis meines Systems" (his Spanish wasn't too good; that's why it had to be abridged) when he lived in Spain in the late 30s to fight for the Republic; he's generally believed to have died in ...

   Nov-06-09 Eric Schiller (replies)

FHBradley: It's sort of 'funny' that every time anyone has something negative to say about someone else's book, it turns out the fault lies not with the book but with the reviewer.

   Nov-02-09 Fischer vs H Rossetto, 1959 (replies)

FHBradley: "Rossetto stoned"; very nice, if, for someone, possibly slightly politically incorrect.
