Hi, I am just learning about chess. I live in Philadelphia. I am a new member to USCF (1615). I play a bit on many chess servers under the same handle (Fulkrum). I play a lot of over the board tournament games at my local club. The next big tournament in my schedule, is the world open. Current books that I am reading are Dvoretsky's "Endgame Manual," "Starting Out: Rook Endings," and Rethinking the Chess Pieces. I use this site for playing through games quickly and I will ask questions and add comments whenever possible.

Fulkrum: <Marco65 and Cogano>--Check out "Rethinking the Chess Pieces" by Soltis. GM Soltis goes through an in depth discussion on the value of pieces. So far it's a pretty good read. I'm not finished yet but I read the first two chapters. Soltis states in his book, "The further away ...

   Mar-15-06 Averbakh vs V Osnos, 1965 (replies)

Fulkrum: This is not an exchange sacrifice. Averbakh wins material by force.

Dec-28-05 Bareev vs Svidler, 2005 (replies)

Fulkrum: OK thanks Crafty.

   Dec-18-05 Kamsky vs Smirin, 2005

Fulkrum: Or maybe he got to his job and just didn't like it.

   Dec-18-05 Emms vs A Greet, 2005

Fulkrum: I wonder, is 44..g5 a mistake or is there nothing better.

   Sep-08-05 F Zita vs Bronstein, 1957 (replies)

Fulkrum: I looked at the discovered checks. When I gave up I was looking at 35...Rf4+ and was thinking that might be the most promising move for black.
