Funology: Must have driven him batty

   Mar-01-13 T Nyback vs M Matthiesen, 2003 (replies)

Funology: Instead of 33. ...Nxg3 my move was ...d3 intending to promote and if 34. Bf4 then ...Nh4. Can anyone confirm that this works too?

   Feb-08-13 Rublevsky vs K Asrian, 2004 (replies)

Funology: this felt easier than yesterday's

Dec-06-12 Xie Jun vs N Ioseliani, 1997 (replies)

Funology: Bizarrely, got this quicker and more accurately than Tues & Wed. Perhaps it is a matter of expectations: Thurs is anticipated to be hard, so more effort is spent, while less effort and concentration is spent on earlier days and thus sometimes obvious things are missed.

   Nov-07-12 Granda-Zuniga vs R Rodriguez Lopez, 1995 (replies)

Funology: I went with 2. Nc7+ instead of Ng7+, but Black can avoid mate by dropping the Queen with Qxc7. It seems there are several powerful continuations for White, and the main challenge of today was to find the strongest one.

Funology: Also, when you pay for a chess lesson, you're not just paying for the GM's time. You're paying for their knowledge, which they have had to acquire through years of painstaking effort. I mean, given the choice between a somewhat expensive lesson with an experienced teacher and ...

   Oct-07-12 K Mokry vs Gheorghiu, 1985 (replies)

Funology: I got the game continuation until 25. Qg5+, instead going with 25. Rf3. However, I missed that Black should be able to defend by playing 25. ...Re8 and using the open e-file for a Rook lift. The difficulty with today's puzzle, imo, is in the temptation to go with a hand-wavy ...

   Sep-22-12 A Valsecchi vs P Bontempi, 2012 (replies)

Funology: Nice pun <caissas>!

   Sep-20-12 Browne vs E Winslow, 1977 (replies)

Funology: A small flaw in your analysis <Abdel>: after 1. Rxh8+ Kg7 2. Bxf6+ Kxf6 3. Qf4+ Ke6, <4. Qf5+> gives a quicker mate after 4. ...Ke7 5. Qxf7#.

   Sep-11-12 N Pogonina vs C Roelli, 1998 (replies)

Funology: That's what I thought originally <UrVileWedge>, but Black can play 27. ...Kxc7 instead of taking the Bishop.
