Johannesburg RSA. Kaspy is King but Fisher is forever!

Isilimela has kibitzed 98 times to chessgames   [more...]
Feb-21-18 Kasparov vs Piket, 1995 (replies)
Isilimela: 18. Qc3 with the idea of Nf6+ and Bxf7+ winning the queen if black hasn't moved it in the interim. Also if WQ can get to d3 there is the theme of Nf6+ followed by Qg6+ since f7 pawn is pinned.
Feb-07-18 Tired Old Man vs C W Daco, 2002 (replies)
Isilimela: what's this game doing here ?
   Nov-23-17 Karpov vs M Kouvatsou, 2001
Isilimela: should set up some kind of computer system to check game scores for obvious blunders. Games should have a check box indicating "game score verified" or something to that effect.
Nov-17-17 Nunn vs Seirawan, 1992 (replies)
Isilimela: Ground control to chess(games).com, this is ground control to chess(games).com! Do you copy over ?!! 28 ... Rh8.
Nov-16-17 Ding Liren vs Carlsen, 2017 (replies)
Isilimela: 20 ... b5 adjudged 'mistake' by Stockfish (evaluation +1.2) but Ding plays into the WC's hands with the disastrous Rg3/e5 plan which just opened up the other diagonal. After 22 e5 the evaluation slumps to -3.5
Nov-13-17 Tal vs Uhlmann, 1971 (replies)
Isilimela: Even a player as 'well booked' (as Uhlmann undoubtedly was) cannot match intuitive genius! Trojan horse is indeed the perfect description here: 12 Nf5! leaving the opponent fatally mesmerized!
Nov-10-17 Karpov - Fischer World Championship Match (1975) (replies)
Isilimela: Whenever I see the title "Karpov - Fischer World Championship match" it gives me goose bumps! In some lucky alternate universe it happened I guess. Re Fischer and Kaspy's stats, just do the same for one Paul Morphy! Just so way ahead of the crowd (for his time) it's not true.
   Nov-08-17 Kasparov vs Kramnik, 1996
Isilimela: The knight sac with 21 ... O-O is judged objectively unsound (Stockfish) but very good chess psychology from Kramnik - Kasparov could not easily tell whether bluff or brilliancy!
   Nov-02-17 J F Donovan vs Fischer, 1956 (replies)
Isilimela: One of those games where after winning a piece, white found it frustratingly difficult to consolidate. Fischer made no further mistakes and pounced when white left the e1 square unattended after which the evaluations in his favour plummet. Good fighting spirit shown by the 13 year
Oct-20-17 Korchnoi - Polugaevsky Candidates Semifinal (1977) (replies)
Isilimela: Re "sporting history". They all look like - well - chess players! Anyway looks like all the physical training certainly helped "Scorchnoi" in this match.
