Revised, in response to overwhelming popular demand!

I am an American, born (gulp) in 1950, who has lived in Peru for most of the past 30 years. I write and publish books on natural areas and archaeological sites around the country, especially in the Andes. Some of my most enjoyable games have chess have been played at campsites beside glacial lakes or at the foot of 6000m peaks. I was not accused of using Rybka during these games.

Reading and posting on chessgames is a great way to postpone the never-ending work of writing and editing.

I'm not a very strong player, and have never played a rated game or in anything beyond informal tournaments. I do play often against my implacable Hiarcs (I've upgraded from MacChess) and am gaining valuable and seemingly endless experience in holding the draw while playing the weaker side. Hiarcs does NOT like to accept draw offers!

I very much enjoy chessgames, and not only on the subject of chess. To those who complain about off-topic discussions, my only answer is that I enjoy chatting with the kibitzers here a lot more than those on sports or politics websites. More civilized. Full Member
