JureIvanusic: Gurn hill over banks!

   Feb-11-14 H Westerinen vs A Planinc, 1971

JureIvanusic: How the West was won.. :) interesting game, white's interesting attack comes to nothing because of black's brilliant defence.

Aug-01-13 Vidmar vs Euwe, 1936 (replies)

JureIvanusic: 30. Ne6 Qd5 and mate to follow.

Aug-01-13 Topalov vs Kramnik, 2008 (replies)

JureIvanusic: Funny.. If the white's pawn would be on a5 instead of a4, then black could try with 45... Rxg2+, which could lead to a stalemate (f.e.: 46. Kxg2 Qg6+ 47. Kh1 Qxe6 48. Rb8+ Nxb8 49. Rxb8+ Ka7 50. e8=Q Qd5+ 51. Kg1 Qg2+ 52. Kxg2 stalemate).

   Aug-01-13 K Treybal vs Alekhine, 1922 (replies)

JureIvanusic: Why not simple 33.... dxc1Q ?

Jul-30-13 Morphy vs James Thompson, 1860

JureIvanusic: If 18... exf3, then 19. Rfe1+ Be6, 20. axb7 Rd8 21. Bxc6+ Nd7 (all forced) and with 22. Bc5! white would achieve a winning position. (22.... Bb8 23. Rd3 with an idea of Rde3 or 22... Bxc5 23. Rxd7 Ba7 24. Rxc7+ Kf8 and white has options 25. Bxf3 or 25. Bd5 to which the only ...

Jul-29-13 Morphy vs James Thompson, 1860

JureIvanusic: 39.... Ne7 40. Rg7.

Jul-29-13 Morphy vs James Thompson, 1860

JureIvanusic: Well, this is the master at work! Crushing revenge after losing the game with the same odds few days ago, now winning at all costs (11. Rae1 Bxe1 12. Rfe1) and finally crowning the attack with a wonderful 21 Nd8+. Beautiful mate!

Jul-29-13 Bologan vs Bacrot, 2001 (replies)

JureIvanusic: 26. Qxc7 was a mistake, 26. Qf5 would be much better indeed, making pressure on h7.

   Jul-28-13 Bisguier vs J Penrose, 1950 (replies)

JureIvanusic: <RookFile>! It looks like that after 22....gxf5 23. gxf5 Bf8 (which is the best, according to software) and then after 24. Nh4, best reply for black is indeed 24.... Be8, but after 25. Qh5, Re7 is almost forced (25... Ra7 loses to 26. Bxg7+) and white can now play an ...
