I am a novice player from Detroit, MI, USA, struggling to improve:)

(well I was a novice player but now that I see that I've been a member here for seven years I better call myself a Hobby Player)

KingV93 comes from the best I could do finding a Yahoo ID that represented one of my favorite football players of all time; John Randle, #93 & defensive tackle for the Minnesota Vikings and a hall of famer. Living proof that dedication and ferocious, relentless intensity can take you far in life. I try to temper all of that with kindness, patience and wisdom as much as I can, strange as that sounds.

Learned the moves as a kid, started taking an interest and trying to get better in 2004. Currently trying to develop a repertoire around 1.e4 with white and sicilian vs. 1.e4 and kings indian vs. 1.d4. I also love to play the Kings Gambit and the Benko Gambit. Having the initiative is well worth a pawn or two.

I'll apologize here in advance for any blatant stupidity in my posts, and give thanks for your patience and insight.

I play on PlayChess almost exclusively these days as Tackler26, an ode to the greatest captain of the greatest football team in the world; JOHN TERRY

The competition is good there and while it's not free forever the anti-cheating feature is worth it. My slow play rating hovers between 1600-1700 while my blitz struggles to crack 1500. Not studying much anymore, just playing for fun. If life ever slows down I'll get back to working on being a chessmaster. It's my endgame skills that stink so bad. I blow too many won games with bad technique or running out of time, spending too much of it looking for that crushing brilliancy you know ;-)

Favorite players :

Kasparov....the most dominating and the best player....ever!

Fischer,Tal,Morphy,Blackburne,Alekhine...all the great attackers.

Becoming a fan of Topalov, as someone willing to take a risk and attack in order to win instead of playing it safe. I detest the technical types; Kramnik (ran from Kasparov) Leko (boooring) Anand (Mr. nice guy) I do like Carlsen as well. With Garry Kasparov as coach the kid is gonna be dominant, if he's not already.

"A good sacrifice is one that is not necessarily sound, but one that leaves your opponent dazed and confused." --- Spielmann

"In chess, only the attacker wins." -- kotov

Some personal interests outside of chess:

Football, spcifically Chelsea Football Club! I've been to Stamford Bridge to see a premier league game (the 'Wayne Bridge non-handshake game' against ManCity) and an FA Cup win against Stoke City, a great game on a Sunday evening in west London in which we won 2-0 on the way to our second consecutive FA Cup. I also watch a lot of Bundesliga and root for the Royal Blues of Schalke 04! Blau und Weiss Ein Leben Lang! Ein Leben Lang Balu und Weiss!

The Minnesota Vikings! I've been a fan of the NFL and the Vikings since I was about 8 years old and am still waiting for them to win the big one. It's gonna happen one day before I die...I hope :-/

I have degrees in Math and Physics from Eastern Michigan University and have lots of interest in science topics from astronomy, astrophysics, extraterrestrial intelligence, particle physics, genetic engineering, nanotechnology, artificial intelligence and all sorts of futuristic spacey stuff.

I like to read classic science fiction and fantasy from time to time as well as some political and philosophical books when I get the chance.

I am a real estate broker and financier by trade and feel that people should do their homework before shooting their mouths off about the current global financial mess and who is to blame.

Like most people who work for a living and are not protected by a union or tenure I'm a conservative fiscally and a libertarian socially. I believe in a government that exists to protect the people and enforce the laws that allow them to be free and prosper to the best of their individual ability. Not in a government that wipes their noses every time they sneeze, and that those who administer the government should live by and under the same rules as those they govern.

I have a wonderful girlfriend who is even more beautiful on the inside than on the outside and believe me, she's pretty good lookin' :-) She has three great kids who I love trying to be a good dad to, it teaches me a lot. About life, about love and about me. And it's worth every minute. Our eldest is a beautiful young lady who dances, very well, and who sucked me into doing the dads dance last year. I'm the zombie on the left in the COC shirt and the Blackie Lawless wig trying desperately to hide because...I CAN'T DANCE! Here's the link to watch the video for a good laugh

Please feel free to post questions or comments on my forum but I appreciate literacy and logic in a discussion far more than passion.

Don't forget to have a Great Day!

Love the site, very helpful and entertaining.

KingV93: Well the whining and bickering has reached new heights, only on chessgames.com could all the kibitzers have a perfectly good tiebreak solution that's been in place beforehand and still complain about the outcome after seeing some really great chess this tournament. It was close, but

KingV93: I prefer 5...h6 to fight against the Averbakh. Blacks original strategy of playing f5 with a Kingside attack is much less viable in this variation but its possibility is at least preserved with h6, preventing the Bg5-Qd2 battery that threatens to derail Blacks game from the outset. ...

   Jan-21-13 Kramnik vs Aronian, 2012

KingV93: This is a great game! While I'm not a fan of either player to see them engage in such a tactical shootout if fantastic, very fun to see chess like this.

Jan-15-13 Aronian vs Carlsen, 2013 (replies)

KingV93: I would love to see Carlsen inject some new ideas into the Kings Indian, White seems to have the upper hand when it's played at the top level these days. Here he uses several different ideas in one game, most players would get crushed doing this against Aronian but Carlsen uses some

KingV93: I did not find this difficult and I stink at endgames. I guess today I am the blind squirrel!

KingV93: White was blindfolded? astounding. Seems rather Black was blindfolded...with a cigarette.
