   Apr-26-12 Anand vs P H Nielsen, 2003 (replies)

Kruglov: <gofer> It seems that the best line of defense for Black is 31. Bxe4! Nxe4 32. Rxe4+ Rxe4 33. Qg5+ Ke8 34. f6! Rg4 35. Qxg4 Qc5 36. Qd7+ Kf8 37. Qd8+ Rxd8 38. Rxd8#

   Sep-21-11 V Mikenas vs Bronstein, 1965 (replies)

Kruglov: Very easy puzzle to solve methodically. Took me 10 seconds. Second 1. Find back rank mate threat with 24...Qe1+. Second 2. Confirm that 25.Rxe1 loses. Second 3. Find White's defense 25.Qf1. Second 4. Realize that the White queen or a1 rook need deflection. Second 5. Try Black ...

   Aug-17-11 B Katalymov vs M Kolpakov, 1975 (replies)

Kruglov: After looking at several puzzles on YouTube by ChessNetwork ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ig6w... ) I was searching for the Queen sac to enable checkmate. So it was the fastest Wednesday for me, under 5 seconds for all variants. Qg6 deflects black Queen from defending h8 against ...

   May-04-11 R Fontaine vs A Sokolov, 2007 (replies)

Kruglov: IMHO, not worthy of Wednesday. Knight and pawn are poised to support heavy pieces on the second rank, which queen and rook dominate. The most difficult part is to find the queen sac on Qxh2+. Then all Black needs to do is keep checking until checkmate.

Apr-14-11 Vasiukov vs Taimanov, 1965 (replies)

Kruglov: It was my first Thursday puzzle solved in under 10 seconds. I found 37.Nf6 Kxf6 38.Qf3+ even before I looked for Black's possible counterattacks, including Rxg4, which Nf6 successfully defends.

   Nov-23-10 R K Delaune vs F Rhine, 1997 (replies)

Kruglov: <WhiteRook48: 26. Ne7+ would also work> 26. Ne7+ leaves White only the Exchange up, while the text move 26 Rxc8 leaves it the whole Rook up. 26. Ne7+ Qxe7+ 27. Rxc8 Rxc8 28. Rxc8+ Kh7

   Nov-21-10 V Akhmadeev vs A Aleksandrov, 2008 (replies)

Kruglov: Black has 2 threats: pick up the a-pawn and a perpetual check on Qg1 and Qh1. Now White cannot get away from the perpetual. 86. a8=Q Qg1+ 87. Kh3 Qh1+ 88. Kg4 Qh4+ 89. Kf5 Qf4#. Therefore, White's first task is to prepare flight squares for its King on g4, f5, and e6. Then promote ...

   May-30-10 Portisch vs L Lengyel, 1964 (replies)

Kruglov: It must be the first Sunday puzzle I solved, and in under 1 minute. Yes, I knew this week's theme of stalemate, but still it was very easy. Black has no chance of winning, so needs to play for draw. King is already stalemated. The only mobile piece is the Queen. Get rid of it and ...

Apr-30-10 Lasker vs Loman, 1903 (replies)

Kruglov: The easiest Friday for me. Felt more like Tuesday or Wednesday. Took me about 5 seconds to spot the combination. Then I spent another another 5 seconds to verify I didn't miss anything.

   Jan-15-09 Fomenko vs L Radchenko, 1967 (replies)

Kruglov: Why not 22.Nxd2 ? The Knight does nothing except guarding the c3 pawn, but Bb2 also guards it, and removing the defender by 22...Rxb2 23.Kxb2 Rb8+ fails to 24.Nb3. Well, I suppose, the attack would continue as in text with 22...Bc2.
