Hi. I'm a chess fan, but a fairly weak player (~1400)

The legends whose games interest me the most are: Paul Morphy, Mikhail Tal, Bent Larsen and R.J. Fischer. I also like N. Short, J. Speelman, V. Anand and the 2 K's.

I won a blindfold game against a friend once (I was, he wasn't). That was both quite unexpected and quite funny! Full Member

LucB: If you believe Google maps, there's (presently) a nine hour difference between Tashkent and the North American East coast. As I'm writing this it is almost 6:00pm in NY/Montreal and it is almost 3:00am in Tashkent. The site says the game start at ...

LucB: <TheFocus> <And truly, has there ever been a World Champion other than Steinitz that is weaker in the endgame than Anand?> I guess you're not counting Topalov, right?...

LucB: Congratulations to Fabiano Caruana and to Boris Gelfand for a fine performance! Question: could Fabiano qualify via this series of tournaments AND by rating (assuming he is still rated #2 in the long run)?

LucB: Hmm .. since when has Karkakin turned into a d4 player?
Oct-10-14 Gelfand vs Nakamura, 2014 (replies)
LucB: A note about the commentators on the official site... those 2 (Sutovsky and ...???) don't seem to like each other. I find Sutovsky insufferable myself.

LucB: Is this easy for a Wednesday? I usually don't get the whole thing on Wednesday. I saw the first move in a flash, and eventually concluded all the way to mate. A rare occasion, yay!! ('makes up for the terrible game I played yesterday at the chess club)

LucB: < Please note that Monday is a rest day; this game begins Tuesday 6:00am EST.> Of course I know what you mean, but we're still "Saving Daylight" in North America are we not?... or am I going to be late for my meeting tomorrow? ;)
Oct-03-14 Caruana vs Gelfand, 2014 (replies)
LucB: The press conference has been posted at the link I quote above. The variations that Boris and Fabiano were looking at were unreal; very impressive stuff!

LucB: Well, all I can say is that I'm glad I'm not an arbiter ... hey, wait a minute: what are you doing up at this time of the night!?? I have an excuse: I live in the Eastern Time Zone, but aren't you in Ireland? It must be like 2:00am over there! A bit of a night owl, are we? :)

LucB: <paavoh> I was being sarcastic of course! ;)
