I'm 50 and have played casually and postally for 31 years. No rating. I'm captivated by all attempts to teach chess and by the challenge it poses to the teacher and student. I recommend Weapons of Chess by Pandolfini and Ideas Behind the Openings by Fine

MagneticResonanceMan: I haven't been playing long so if anyone wants to respond concerning basics, I appreciate it. Was 21.Nf5 just in hopes that black would grab a piece regardless of King safety? And why not 23...Nxe4 rather than 23...exf4? What's wrong with another free pawn? Obviously ...

MagneticResonanceMan: I dont have a high rating so maybe this is a stupid ques. but why did Ward play 33...g6 when it cost him a knight?

MagneticResonanceMan: Regarding Pandolfini, there's no question that Weapons of Chess is one of the greatest books for a beginner to advanced beginner. I'll bet writing chess books is a separate talent from personal coaching, requiring a separate evaluation.
