I live in Detroit, Michigan. 19 years old, learned chess at 10. I played up until around 13 but I couldn't find any good competition in this area so I quit until about 8 months ago when I started again on ICC.

My favorite player by far is Mikhail Tal.

I play on ICC, my handle there is RKelley. I'm not very strong but have managed wins against much stronger opponents.

I play 1. e4 as white and the Sicilian (mainly the Kan) against e4. I play the Nimzo-Indian.

RKelley: Yes, the Emms book covers Be7 as well as Ba7. When first learning the Kan I was very intrigued by Ba7 and I liked it very much because of its attacking prospects against the white king. All my interest in this line vanished once I discovered that Be3 is pretty much always played ...

RKelley: Not quite Jack21221, there are more chess positions than atoms in the universe. It will be a LONG time until chess is solved in my opinion.

RKelley: bunti: Ilya Smirin is one of the top practictioners of the Kan, Kramnik and Kasparov have also used it a few times. I highly suggest Emms Sicilian Kan book by Everyman for learning the Kan, it's a ver good book.

RKelley: Here is a Nimzo-Indian I played today against IM Jonathan Schroer, time control 35 with a 35 second increment. I have the black pieces. 1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 e6 3. Nf3 b6 4. Nc3 Bb4 5. Bg5 h6 6. Bh4 Bb7 7. e3 c5 8. Bd3 cxd4 9. exd4 Bxf3 10. Qxf3 Nc6 11. Qe3 Be7 12. h3 O-O 13. O-O Nb4 14.

RKelley: Dickens didn't put any more effort into these posts than copying off a site and pasting it... taking credit for it.

Aug-24-03 Karpov vs Tal, 1987 (replies)

RKelley: in The Life and Games of Mikhail Tal he says he lost only once on time, early in his career. The book only covers up until 1973 though, so it is possible he lost on time.
