Rank Amateur: I think White made about 6 really ugly knight moves in this game. The result was a position where nobody could get near the White king except the black pieces.

Rank Amateur: Maybe I took this too far. After
23 .. Qxf3
I looked for White's best move.

prevents mate. White's lost a piece, and the d-pawn is next to go. The Kibitzers who called it 'black wins a piece' saw more than Albin.

Rank Amateur: Honestly, this one took me a while. I try to be methodical, and start by looking at the opponents threats. Often that's part of the solution: noticing that you're about to lose a piece, or the game. After that, it didn't take very long, though I admit, I first looked at Bh2+. ...

Rank Amateur: Found the first move, but then I thought it was 17 Nxe5 to win the rook. Failed to see that moving the Knight too soon lets black escape with 17 ... Qd1+

Rank Amateur: found the right move, but didn't figure on white's response. Was only thinking of the pawn capturing the bishop. But then, I never get Thursday.

Rank Amateur: Well, I got that one. Not much to explain. Throw away the rook to set up the fork. While the Queens stare each other down.

Rank Amateur: Oops! No, it doesn't work. I gave up the pin on the d-file. Now that knight can move. I lose.

|
Rank Amateur: Yeah, I found it quickly too. If you start the clock when I quit looking for a way to trap the Queen. Seems like we had one of those recently so I was determined to box her in.

Rank Amateur: doesn't Black still have a chance to trade Queens? How about 33...Qg7?
(I indend that as an English question mark, not a chess question mark.)

| |
|
Rank Amateur: Black looked dead by move 13. Knights in the corners and nothing at all to challenge White in the center. It was a simple task to bring the attack to the Black king. I don't think I'll try that defense. White played 18 c3 to drive off the night. Does the attack work without it?
