Returning Native
Member since Aug-11-13 · Last seen Aug-14-18
I live in the UK and I'm returning to the game after a 25 year absence, I've played all my life but in the late 1980s I decided to join a club. I played a bit competitively with mixed results but when we moved to an area where the club was much stronger I found I was being beaten soundly several times every club night so it all went a bit sour. Now, with much diminished family responsibilities I'd like to try again. Full Member

Returning Native: <Miss Scarlett> As an English 'Remoaner' I'd be proud to play under the EU flag. I just don't have the talent.

Returning Native: < RT Mind you these things are only easy if one is experienced at chess. When starting out, it would look silly to give up a bishop. So it's only easy if you have seen the patterns..>. Right. A lot of people at club level are wary of any kind of sacrifice. It's a ...

Returning Native: I saw as much as the players - my first ever 'success'- but no more, Seeing 'Black to play' I wasn't looking for a resource for White though it did occur to me that Queen for Rook & Knight wasn't a huge gain

Returning Native: Thumbs up if you checked <13. Nxd6+> first. I did. I was looking at the possibility of creating a half open file. I didn't see the danger to the queen. She takes up an aggressive position on the flank early in so many games despite what we're always being told about ...

Returning Native: I found the key move and the following two moves, my best performance so far. I missed Kh5, but even I should have found the right response OTB.

Returning Native: He has written a 'puzzle' column daily in the London Evening Standard since the mid 1950s (though now relegated to their website). More information on Wikipedia. I used to read it when I first started working in London nearly 40 years ago. He's a mine of information and ...

Returning Native: playground player: What in the world was the purpose of Black's 18...h6? Did he simply fail to see he was about to be mated 18...h6 makes reasonable sense if he wanted to avoid 19 Bxf6 Nxf6, drawing the N away from queenside defence duties. Perhaps he had personal problems ...
