 | | Richard Taylor: No as Maori say in some of their haka -
Ka mate ka mate, ka ora ka ora!
Something like Make death, death , death: from death comes life! But there are many kind of haka, not all re war chants or challenges as withe All Blacks! We beat H-Pak in the shadow of Eden Park! Paul and Tony didn't seem too worried, unlike Stuart who worries about these matters a lot! I don't care who wins. I just liked to get a game and I think the social aspect of teas meeting has sadly been lost and replaced with obsessive competition. I recall at Howk-Pak we used to always stop our games and have a cup of tea and a biscuit and a good talk etc It was something I looked forward to. Now it is all so formal everywhere and also the obsession with rating points and FIDE points and rules and who wins what [the point of the greatness of chess itself is forgotten in favour of beating other clubs or whatever and not on the game (artistic and scientific) and honest investigation into why moves are made etc]...I can see the attractions of doing studies of playing correspondence chess...and just playing over great games at rather than OTB at Club or tourneys. But it was better at H-Pak when I but now Tony shouts at everyone and there is no stop as the stupid security alarm goes off...at ACC Ewen Green is always grumpy and really difficult to talk to if you even can (he seems to of etn be almost hostile to me, I don't really know what crime I have committed, one theory is he hates to see such as I who are old still doing well at chess)*; and a lot of the players just don't want to know after they have finished their game...Leonard McClaren is really great value by contrast. Very positive and supportive of everyone. * But look at Korchnoi (speaking of curmudgeons!) still playing this very year soem pretty good chess! |

| Oct-29-11 | | cormier: Rich countries such as Australia, Britain and Canada favor a stronger action to protect human rights, but many developing nations resent outside influence. Some members consider the move intrusive or unnecessary. But former Australian prime minister Malcolm Fraser says it would be a mistake to abandon the idea. "It's not something that's aimed at third world countries, because especially since 9/11 some of the developed countries I believe have transgressed quite seriously in relation to human rights in the so-called fight against terrorism, in attitudes to refugees and sometimes in relation to their attitudes towards indigenous peoples," said Fraser. "So it's not only going to be African countries that would be subject to reports, Australia would be subject to report, Canada would, and I think that would be good." |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Richard>
Let's try that again.
My forum is not a thoroughfare, it's my virtual apartment. When you post in there for the first time in months, it's basic courtesy to say hello to me. Particularly since you made no effort whatsoever to answer the hellos I gave you in Benzol's forum recently. I'll not brook this kind of rudeness from you or anyone else. Basic civilized behavior is required on the internet- no less, and perhaps even more- than in real life. |

 | | Richard Taylor: You are all too kind! Come on Travis you know you started all this with your reference to the toy soldier YouTube video with sarcastic ref. and attack on me. Then you wanted to kill all Muslims. You know you are a wrong-headed right-winger in the wrong country. Get down to Wall Street or Brooklyn or wherever there is a foreclosure and get involved with people....or join the army (you love wars and killing) and you might get to kill some of those evil Arabs you loved seeing being tortured and humiliated at Abu Graib or you might get holiday at Guantanamo or one of the other detention centres. Merry Xmas. |

But you were meant to go ape at me and abuse me and so on but...you send me a really nice song by Ives and great scene from Taxi driver...bah! Lol!! De Niro - no doubt about him I remember him in "Scent of a Woman". Taxi Driver is great also... I think I was even cheered up a bit - it even stopped me being Grinch for while! Bother! Sometimes I agree I am an "*****" but then who else is in the room ?!! Merry Xmas! |
 |
Dec-18-11

 | | Domdaniel: Hey, Richard.
Treason's Bleatings and Reason's Secretings.
I like the way you think. We may be crazy old farts, but we've seen stuff these kids can't imagine. There's a song you'd like, a 70s punk-spoof by Alberto y Lost Trios Paranoias. It's called <God is Mad> ... <A message from your maker
You'd better all take care
Those of you who wear glasses
Had best beware
And death will come at midnight
For those of you who wear false teeth.
For if there is a god
Why should he be sane?
He's probably a raving fruitcake
Out of his tiny brain.
God is mad ...">
May the earth fail to move for you. Best, G/D. |

| Dec-24-11 | | cormier: Merry Christmas ... tks G .... \\ // / ..... |

Dec-25-11
 | | Richard Taylor: <Dom Daniel> Merry Xmas! Yes! God is mad or if he ever existed has lost interest! My son thinks the Rothschilds are behind everything! I try to explain at the whole capitalist system, taken world wide, and taking into account long history and my own experience... it is all rather more complex! But he doesn't read a lot and relies on crazy people raving on YouTube etc |

Dec-25-11
 | | Richard Taylor: < jessicafischerqueen: Steady on <Richard>, just letting you know a certain etiquette is required whilst posting in my forum > Yes. But did you hear the British Queen's Xmas message? She urged forgiveness. O.k. I dived in and commented to <Domdaniel> but of course I meant to say "and Jesicca", but I forgot. My apologies if I offended you.
Merry Xmas. |

Dec-25-11
 | | Richard Taylor: <Domdaniel> <Jessicafisherqueen> <Others> Earlier in late early December I was published in an online zine called Jacket2 as part of a selection of (more or less unacknowledged or in some cases (not mine!) younger poets in NZ. There are some very innovative writers from all over the world who are (or were) in Jacket and Jacket2 I'll post some links to it... |
 |
Dec-25-11
 | | Richard Taylor: This is the best link:
https://jacket2.org/feature/look-an...
1 or 2 things -
it says that I am a chess master - now I didn't ever tell anyone I was a chess master (I'm not in terms of say CG.com my FIDE rating is not even 2000!) but they know my interest in chess so I suppose it was easiest to say that..hmmm Also the picture of me is pretty "hard case", but for complex reasons Titus Books use it*; and it was originally in colour but I had reduced the file size so it wasn't good (so they converted it to B&W) - but looks quite good on my Paint program). It could be better but it perhaps conveys something of how I look! Where it was taken is at a nearby yacht Club where my son and I have played over many many master Chess games (old and recent)...there and in other places where we stop for lunch on our daily walks. Also, I'm amazed at the amount of stuff on Jacket - and Jacket2.
(the sadly late) Robert Creeley is there (I met him in Auckland once), Rachel Blau du Plessis, Charles Bernstein (interesting academic - "guru" of the so-called Language poetry movement with Silliman and say Lynn Heijinian - based in Buffalo NY, Is studied some of his essays and some of his poems in 1992 or so); many Australian poets and writers...and many others and much else. Too much to even touch the surface of. Like chess!
*Bill Direen, innovative writer and musician of the Bilders and co-editor of Titus Books and another mag called Percutio moves between France, Germany and New Zealand (Often Christchurch) so I my communications with Titus etc flash between NZ and France and back to Auckland to the other editor and so on -gets confusing! As did my picture. |

Dec-25-11
 | | Richard Taylor: I deleted this message as a link was wrong, it should come before the last two or three " Richard Taylor: Here are is the email from Dr Jack Ross telling me of where and when I was published: 'Dear Poets,
Please check out your contribution to the Jacket2 NZ poetry feature (fresh up today). Each of you has a separate page linked to from the feature homepage at: http://jacket2.org/feature/look-and...
and-look-again
It's also (at present) on the front page of the site - just under the Australian feature - at: https://jacket2.org/
Your bios and author photos can be linked to from the feature homepage. Thanks for your cooperation with the process -- and your patience in awaiting the result ... Best, jack ' |
 |
Dec-31-11
 | | Domdaniel: Congrats, Richard. As far as the general public is concerned, anyone who plays in a closed national championship is a chess 'master'. And in some countries, mastery starts at a 1900 rating. I was a master in Denmark once. Now I'll go peruse Jacket. As a 'master' of pastiche and doggerel, I can say you're the only real poet on CG. |
