I enjoy teaching chess, especially to children. I enjoy a longer game of chess better than blitz. I play both OTB and correspondence chess.

Longest OTB game I ever played was 204 moves for 7 hours and 45 minutes.

Robin01: I recently faced this line with the white pieces OTB. It was a new experience for me. I noticed a couple of games in the database. However, I played 6.h3 in this position for white. After 6...Nh6, I then continued 7.c3. It was an interesting game and ended in a draw. Has anyone else

That's what I already did, but I didn't look further than your bio. I never occurred to me that a personal forum would be referred to as "my site" :)

I also often supervise chess playing children, en passant teaching them some things.

I'll look at your game more closely when I have time, concentrating on the opening, for let's be frank, after 18.Bc5? the game isn't very interesting anymore for an outsider.

Robin01: <nescio>Yes, 18.Bc5? was not a good move by white.
Aug-21-09   nescio: 1.c4 e5 2.Nc3 f5 3.g3
Some 1.c4 players, grandmasters among them, are reluctant to play moves like 3.d4 because they like the closed Sicilian and don’t want to explore unknown territory.

3...Nc6 4.d3

In a recent game I insisted on playing d4, resulting in an unusual opening battle. My idea of Nh4-g2-f4 and h4 wasn’t tested however, because Black played some bad moves right away and lost quickly.

1. c4 e5 2. Nc3 Nc6 3. g3 f5 4. Nf3 Nf6 5. d4 e4
6. Nh4 g6 7. Bg5 Bg7 8. Qd2 O-O 9. Ng2 Re8 10. Nd5 d6 11. h4 Be6 12. Nxf6+ Bxf6 13. d5 Ne5 14. dxe6 Nxc4 15. Qd5 Nb6 16. Qxb7 Bxg5 17. hxg5 Rxe6 18. Nf4 Re5 19. Rc1 c5 20. Qxh7+ 1-0

4...Nf6 5.Bg2 g6
After this move we get a standard closed Sicilian. While it is a good move, I would prefer 5...Bb4 here, giving White something to think about.

6.e3
The other major approach is 6.e4, following Botvinnik in his match against Smyslov (Smyslov vs Botvinnik, 1954), while 6.Rb1 followed by b2-b4 is another idea. Some of my own games went (6.e4 d6) 7.h4 Bg7 8.h5 with the idea 8...Nxh5 9.exf5, but I suppose that’s not to everyone’s taste.

6...Bg7 7.Nge2 0-0 8.0-0 Ne7
Now this is different from the standard ...d6. As the idea is clearly to play ....c6 and ...d5 I would probably have played 9.e4 or 9.d4, if only not to fall in with Black’s plans.

9.Rb1 c6 10.f4
This can’t be bad either and has the merit of having been played by a world class grandmaster: Ivanchuk vs Gelfand, 1994

10...exf4 11.exf4
But here 11.Nxf4 should have been preferred, not allowing ...d5 (which would be answered by cxd5 and Qb3). From now on Black takes the lead.

11...d5 12.cxd5 (12.c5!?) Nexd5 13.Nxd5 Nxd5 14.Qb3 Kh8 15.Nc3?! I can see that the d-pawn is quite weak, but I don’t understand why White gives it up so easily. Why not prepare this with 15.Bd2 ? A single tempo doesn’t collapse the white position.

15...Nxc3 16.bxc3 Dxd3 17.Ba3 Re8 18.Bc5?
Losing a second pawn and the game. Positions where both sides have a bishop pair can be quite tricky and difficult to win, as is clear from the fact that the game lasts for another 50 moves, but in this case I think the win is pretty straightforward.

An interesting position. I am not sure if 6...b5 is good for black or not.

WannaBe: The crowd this year, was definitely more than last year at Santa Anita for the 2009 Breeder's Cup Challenge.

If you saw it on TV, horse number 12 had problem getting into the gate, and had to be scratched, this caused a delay about 15 minutes, all the horses had to be let out and re-loaded.

The roar of the crowd was amazing when the gate opened, there was signs being passed out with the <Girl Power> written all over them.

Trevor Denman the track announcer made the comment that Zenyatta broke out late, and was dead last after 30 yards, he even repeated <"She's dead last"> twice!!

After the horses made the last turn, and coming down the stretch, as Zenyatta started to make her move, another big, huge roar went up.

It was just about the loudest I've ever heard/encountered. Over all, it was a great experience, and to witness Zenyatta win.

I won $100 bucks in race 5, by taking Vale or York across the board with a $2.00 wager!! :-))

Over-all, even with the food, and T-shirt that I bought, I only spent about 30 bucks for the whole day!
