I'm a high school English teacher working in South Central Los Angeles where I'm currently sponsoring the chess club. Since I'm rated 1000 on FICS (until I can afford to get back on ICC), my kids know the moves and basics... and that's it! (sigh). I love this game but I love my wife and kid more so I'm probably going to be a class E player for a while. :)

SufferingBruin: Show of hands who would have gotten this OTB? In my case, I would've been blinded by flop sweat.

SufferingBruin: It's crash the rook into the defense week here at CG. Rxg7 starts the ball rolling.

Feb-19-15 Anand vs Nakamura, 2015 (replies)

SufferingBruin: I'll be interested to see where Anand ranks in all-time lists. It seems as if his best chess came between Kasparov and Carlsen (the former recognized as the all-time great by many, the latter who is on his way to similar recognition). If Anand had beaten either, this wouldn't

SufferingBruin: Got everything but the last damn move. Crud.

Nov-17-14 Carlsen vs Anand, 2014 (replies)

SufferingBruin: Sally, your post is really difficult to decipher. Respectfully, Carlsen's behavior was at least annoying, if not insulting. He made more than a few people Anand fans today. It's literally true the player who has winning chances can continue to play. But no reasonable GM could

SufferingBruin: <al wazir> Applause. We are not worthy.

   Jul-19-14 Robert James Fischer (replies)

SufferingBruin: <joshka> I thought it was a very moving video and tribute by Kasparov. Fischer was mentally ill and it got worse with age; I always took that into account when he would spout the hateful crap. It's not sympathy, just sad.

SufferingBruin: <Would it be accurate to say Thomas is a HOF shooting guard and Stockton is a HOF point guard?> Both are point guards. I think Isiah, at his best, was better--he could take over a game offensively like few could but Stockton is not that far off and he had the longer ...

Jun-20-13 Letelier vs Fischer, 1960 (replies)

SufferingBruin: Just played this on "Guess the Move". I'm low rated but damn if I wasn't just a little cocky getting most of the moves right (a couple of howlers but still, better than I'm used to). I didn't get 23. ... Rxe3 though I considered it. I *never* considered Qxf4, an amazing ...

SufferingBruin: Nakamura!
