I am a former junior Russian Federation WFM. I have migrated to Australia and live just outside Melbourne, Australia.

   Jan-23-13 Robert Murray Jamieson

SvetlanaBabe: (Yeah, yeah good tennis player...ok) All of IM Jamieson's best wins are here and good wins they are! but where is Jamieson's loss against Levi in the 1 e4 c5 2 Nf3 Nc6 3 Bb5 variation of the Sicilian? Come to think of it, where is his 10 move total capitulation to John ...

   Jun-26-11 B Jaracz vs Miroshnichenko, 2004 (replies)

SvetlanaBabe: If 12 Qe2 then Nb4 followed by 13 b6 and then 14 Ba6 should create some problems for White as well. I bet you can't say the Black players surname fast 6 times!

   Jun-16-11 Vadim Ruban (replies)

SvetlanaBabe: Why haven't I heard of this chessplayer before? He seems to be a very strong player.

   Jun-03-11 Teo Kok Siong

SvetlanaBabe: Used to play in Melbourne in the late 70's and early 80's while he studied there. Good player. Nice guy.

SvetlanaBabe: "Minor Masters" don't beat the likes of Tartakower in matches and lose narrowly to Flohr.

   May-30-11 F Bohatirchuk vs Botvinnik, 1935 (replies)

SvetlanaBabe: Without the state behind him, I always wondered how strong Botvinnik actually was. From the amount of games he lost to 'western' players it seems he wasn't nearly as strong as is commonly accepted. A lot of Bottvinnik's "victories" over players from the Soviet Union are ...

   May-26-11 Jason Goh Koon-Jong

SvetlanaBabe: I took a day off from work once and went to the chess centre in Singapore to watch him play (in 2005). He easily drew against a strong Grandmaster from Vietnam. Don't know why he retired, probably to do something more sensible. I agree, his endgames are very good, intructive!

   May-26-11 Michael John Basman (replies)

SvetlanaBabe: I, on behalf of the 'Coffee-house' chessplayers of Australia, thank IM Basman for existing.

   May-26-11 Jorge Szmetan (replies)

SvetlanaBabe: "Szmetana" is the word for 'Sour Cream' in Russian and Ukrainian. Maybe his family has Slavic roots (explains his success at the game!) Lots of Eastern European migrants made their way to South America before, during and after the upheavals around the time of the Second World ...

May-25-11 Mephisto vs Bronstein, 1997 (replies)

SvetlanaBabe: Yes, 26. Nh1 must have been played not 26.Nf1 (??????) Bronstein was always good at tactics, not so good at strategy much to the delight of GM Botvinnik!
