May-02-19 GRENKE Chess Classic (2019) (replies)
Tal1949: World number 10 is 114 elo behind Carlsen. World's best female is 213 elo behind Carlsen. Magnus is in a league of his own!
   Apr-09-19 Gashimov Memorial (2019) (replies)
Tal1949: Carlsen is 4-0 here and not one game over 60 moves. The boy is in such top form that it does not matter who his opponent is. Good luck trying to dethrone the true World Champ.
Nov-28-18 Carlsen - Caruana World Championship Match (2018) (replies)
Tal1949: Carlsen has just proved that he is the better rapid chess player, but little else. My suggestion for the next WC is to play a 16 game match with 8 standard chess games and 8 Chess 960 games, alternating the format after every 2 games. By playing them at classical time control we ...
   Oct-05-18 Chess Olympiad (2018) (replies)
Tal1949: The Vietnam open team finished 7th yet did not play any top 10 seed after round 4. Surely we cannot take this tournament seriously.
   Aug-23-18 Sinquefield Cup (2018) (replies)
Tal1949: I am sure it has been a massive effort to get this puppy running again. Thank you so much!
Jun-24-18 Steinitz vs Blackburne, 1869 (replies)
Tal1949: 8...f5 was very bad for Mr Blackburne here. When he saw the h4-h5 reply he should have just got up and left the building. Instead of castling or trying a solid b6 the black death went on the attack- against a superior player...never a good idea.
   Jun-02-18 Norway Chess (2018) (replies)
Tal1949: Careful <not not>. People around here are very sensitive when you make those sort of comments about chess players. I was going to suggest that the full time professional players should be playing twice a day instead of having rest days, but I had better not.
   May-14-18 Gashimov Memorial (2018) (replies)
Tal1949: Magnus Carlsen did not beat anybody of note here. He will struggle in the early stages come November- but still prevail.
   May-11-18 T Bowdler vs H Conway, 1788 (replies)
Tal1949: Such a shame that those Anderssen games have pages devoted yet this amazing game has only two... Some amazing stuff here- far more intrigue than the 'immortal game.' The real question is what sort of emotion was running through white during this game- clearly it was a casual game, ...
May-05-18 Tan - Ju Women's World Championship Match (2018) (replies)
Tal1949: I really hope that Ju Wenjun wins the women's WC here. I always prefer the champion to have a rating in the world's top 4, rather than barely in the top 10. Unless the player happens to be on the start of a meteoric rise, of course.
