politics, religion, national pride, sports teams
are not reasons to argue
they appear as personal beliefs

 | | jessicafischerqueen: "Knick Knack paddy whack, give a dog a bone"
lol what a great joke, thank you. I wasn't expecting the punchline. Here is one person's account of what the original song might mean: <'This Old Man' (Knick-Knack Paddywhack) is about a 'rag and bone' man who comes to take away scrap or rubbish the sort of thing you wouldn't be able to put in a dustbin, such as old chairs, second-hand clothes, etc. which could be recycled or sold on for some sum of money. And he would usually push a barrow or drive a horse and cart. End of a good day the little dog accompanying him does OK by getting a bone. ie. he has gathered a knick knack or such, rewards the dog with a bone and rolls his cart on home.> However, according to Wiki it appears that these lyrics replaced older lyrics which want: <The origins of this song are obscure. The earliest extant record is a version noted in Anne Gilchrist's Journal of the English Folk Dance and Song Society (1937), learnt from her Welsh nurse in the 1870s under the title "Jack Jintle" with the lyrics:My name is Jack Jintle, the eldest but one,
And I can play nick-nack upon my own thumb.
With my nick-nack and pad-lock and sing a fine song,
And all the fine ladies come dancing along.> I have a feeling these lyrics were changed in a way that is somehow meant to be derogatory towards the Irish (Paddies). There is often something darker in old nursery rhymes and children's stories. |

 | | Thanh Phan: I thought that was interesting and read some passages from that and other stories from their era, and yes there is a very dark and sarcastic side to the nursery rhymes and children's stories, Interesting that they were given an emotional face-lift to become playful and carefree given their starting status or goals |

You can possess a personnal belief and be cut down or drown in the times around you .. Sometimes you have to stand up ..
Hope you're ok and happy new year by the way ! It's a bit late I know. |

 | | Thanh Phan: Thank you <harrylime> there's a difference between being stepped on and standing up for oneself, and arguing, with pride being no reason to argue |

Thank you for sharing your ideas at The Cirque.
Krishnamurti spent 50 years trying to wake people up from their materialistic dream. The excerpt that <achieve> posted sums up his mission. Some of the implications are quite disturbing. For example:
"...if there is a radical mutation, you affect the whole of consciousness of mankind." "...if there is no mutation we're contributing to the UGLINESS of mankind." The idea that we are all contributing to the sorry state of the world is very disturbing. <achieve's> passionate response makes perfect sense in this context. Any ideas you can add to this discussion would be greatly appreciated. |

I used to watch streaming shows all the time on this site- but the visual quality is terrible. So until they stop me, I'll continue to download high quality torrents of the stuff I want to steal er I mean "watch". What a giveaway... |
