May-18-13 Baron Tassilo von Heydebrand und der Lasa

The17thPawn: Its a shame he never played Morphy. Would have produced some interesting chess.

May-16-13 Norway Chess Tournament (2013) (replies)

The17thPawn: Wow! Radjabov has really been taken to the woodshed lately. First the candidates now this fiasco. I bet he's ready for this week to end.

   Apr-27-13 Svidler vs M Vachier-Lagrave, 2013

The17thPawn: Svidler getting beaten by the Grunfeld is a rare treat as he is a Grunfeld specialist himself.

Apr-26-13 Spiridonov vs Taimanov, 1974 (replies)

The17thPawn: Black's 13th move seems ill timed to me. castling doesn't seem active enough given the position at hand.

   Apr-24-13 S Atalik vs B Baum, 1998 (replies)

The17thPawn: In the event Dr. Baum is a Medical Doctor than the pun, "Physician heal thyself", practically writes itself:)

Apr-13-13 Shirov vs Dreev, 2013 (replies)

The17thPawn: <xanadu> - Have to say I like your eleventh move as well. Slows the kingside initiative and opens the h-file to blast away at white h-pawn. Besides black doesn't always castle in the caro-kann so it has a certain consistency.

   Apr-08-13 B Savchenko vs V Zvjaginsev, 2013

The17thPawn: Looks like Savchenko tuned the Z-man's knight into a non-factor and then used a beautifully active king to clip blacks wings.

   Apr-07-13 Sokolsky vs Kotov, 1949

The17thPawn: Doesn't 26.)..., Bxg4 stymie whites attack? I'm sure kotov was reluctant to trade his only decent bishop but given that the knight became the blasting cap to destroy his position 10 moves later it may have been the better plan.

Apr-07-13 Zhao Jun vs Zhou Jianchao, 2012 (replies)

The17thPawn: I thought 28.)...,Rc8 threatening mate in one offered further resistance until i saw 29.Qxe6+

   Apr-05-13 S Belavenets vs Bronstein, 1941 (replies)

The17thPawn: <Phony Benoni> - Earlier kibitzing already condemns 23. nf4 but I was looking for earlier moves such as the move 17.Rdb1 you pointed out. I agree that whites set-up does look odd but strange set-ups aren't always weak. Thanks for the reply.
