| jessicafischerqueen: Post script=
Inspired, and emboldened, by your crazed decision to spend 20,000 dollars on the best <Bausch and Lomb> speakers known to humanity-- I went on a shopping spree downtown yesterday and shelled out an obscene amount of money for a pair of <BOSE> speakers for my Labdog. I've never been so happy with a purchase in my life-
Well Ok not since I managed to find, and promptly buy, one of the shotgun pellets they dug out of <Harry Whittington's> face on E-Bay. |

| Thorski: A) Yeah, I do like it. I'm a big fan of minimalist composer Philip Glass (did the sountrack for The Hours, his most famous work popularly). His solo piano works are also very interesting. Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vgjb... The Aalborg Fantasy stuff reminds me of his Koyaanisqatsi, and Einstein On the Beach, but with a freer structure/more ambient Examples:
Koyaanisqatsi

Einstein On the Beach
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WmX_...
B) I don't think it's purely synthesized. There's sampling, to be sure, but much of the sound was initially produced by instruments. Take my digital Yamaha, for instance, which is 100% electronic, sounds great, but is using layers of sampled sound from Yamaha's top concert grand. |

 |
| Thorski: You may like Ludovico Einaudi. His stuff is a little softer than Glass'. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTkz... |

| jessicafischerqueen: Ah Ok thanks for taking the time <Big Thor>. I'm also a giant <Glass fan> and I've been all over the <Koyanissskatza> <Pocahantiskatzka> <Neuralgiakaqstquit> trilogy and <Einstein's day off> for years in fact. I'm also a huge fan of <Michael Nyman's> soundtracks for Peter Greenaway films- His music for <The Draughtsman's Contract> is my favorite- have you heard it? Here is Michael directing a portion of this masterpiece live- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfP0... |

| jessicafischerqueen: Heh I got sidetracked listening to "Awaken the Elves" full blast on my new BOSE speakers (now with actual bass!). I hope you're not jealous of my new speakers.
You're not jealous are you?
I don't want you to feel jealous. |

 |
| Thorski: Congrats on your speaker purchase. My B&Ws are not the $20,000 ones. =) They were a great investment though. But there's no need to spend thousands on speakers. Audiophile listening can be had cheaply by investing in a set of top-end headphones. A pair of reference cans would cost you around $500, and would outperform speaker systems costing ten times that. Btw, been checking out the other stuff from the AFS. Very diverse! Thanks for the tip. |

| Thorski: Michael Nyman! Impeccable taste, Jess. =) His soundtrack for The Piano is gorgeous. I'm working on this on the piano:

| Thorski: I'll be jealous if you want me to! Maybe if I stuff my ears with cotton and pretend I have a pair of plastic desktop tweeters from Trust... (Did you read my Sedaris link?) |

| jessicafischerqueen: Yes the OFFICE has maintained and even improved quality- please NO SPOILERS as I'm downloading the episodes as they come online. The wedding was great. |

| jessicafischerqueen: I bin working at work since they have seen fit to force me to do actual work for the money they pay me which I find a little presumptuous on their part. You'll be pleased to know that I've taken preliminary steps to find out how I can purchase an obscenely expensive set of <Bugatti Headphones> via the internet on your suggestion. Mrs. Sound Card |

Watch these two in succession (sorry about the quality).

<cans> Which pair are you getting? Sennheiser's HD650 are popular, but I don't think they're bright enough. Grado makes good ones, but, again, they've got a signature sound. You should really audition your candidates before you buy. |

| Thorski: <Jim Bartle> I'm working on a novel and will eventually attempt to have it published by an American or British publisher. At this stage, I'm mostly investigating my options. You have some experience in this regard. Do you have any suggestions/tips at all? I don't expect it will be easy, but I'm in no rush. |

| moronovich: <Thorski> Interesting to hear about your novel & good luck! This is just a long shot , but I am aware that <Dom Daniel> and e.g.<twinlark> are very interested in lanquage,so may bee.. |

 |
| hms123: <Thorski> <Domdaniel> is a published author and may be able to give you a pointer about British publishers. |

| Thorski: Thanks guys! |
 |
| Nov-05-09 |
| Jim Bartle: Sorry, just saw your note tonight, thorski.
I've only published books on Peru, and no fiction. As I understand it, just sending in a manuscript unsolicited is a very difficult way to go. I'd say you need to have some sort of contact at a publisher, where somebody will read your work carefully. |

 |
| Thorski: <Jim> No problem. Thanks for dropping by. <sending in a manuscript unsolicited is a very difficult way to go> Yes, I'm sure. I've been going through my network and I think I know someone who knows someone who may be able to pull some strings. |

 |
| Thorski: I always found the following uproariously funny.
Ian Frazier - Lamentations of the Father
http://www.theatlantic.com/issues/9... Peter Sagal had a great reading of it, set to dramatic music, during an episode of This American Life, which is how I first came across it. |

| dakgootje: That was awesome! Not often do I find myself laughing out loud [or LOLing] due to a written text! |
 |
| Nov-08-09 |
| Jim Bartle: "For even now I have made the fish as it should be; behold, I eat of it myself, yet do not die." I can only imagine the events that led the author to write that. |

 |
| jessicafischerqueen: Hey sorry I've been neglecting you- I've been sick and tired. But I did enjoy your Office clips AND ALSO the enigmatic EMU you sent me. I should be back to normal soon. I'm very glad you are not taking off for six months at a time like before. This website needs a lot more people like you, and a lot less people who are not like you. Which is most of them.
Well Ok most of us then.

| Thorski: <Jess> I've missed you too! You're very sweet. Sorry to hear you've taken ill. =( Is it the dreaded Bear Flu? FACT: Speeding kills bears.
