[Travis Bickle: "The idea had been growing in my brain for some time: TRUE force. All the king's men cannot put it back together again."]

Chess Records was an American record label based in Chicago, Illinois. It specialized in blues, R&B, soul, gospel music, early rock and roll, and occasional jazz releases that was founded in 1950 and became inactive in 1975.

The company signed many great artists like Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters & Howlin' Wolf to name but a few. Chess Records was based at several different locations on the south side of Chicago, Illinois, initially at two different locations on South Cottage Grove Ave.

The most famous location was 2120 S. Michigan Avenue from around 1956 to 1965, immortalized by British rock group The Rolling Stones in "2120 South Michigan Avenue", an instrumental recorded at that address during their first U.S. tour in 1964; the Stones would record at Chess Studios on two more occasions.

Many songs created by Chess artists were later reproduced by many famous Rock n' Roll bands and artists such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Beach Boys and Eric Clapton. Some of the core riffs created by Bo Diddley, Willie Dixon, Chuck Berry, Howlin Wolf, Muddy Waters and others were the basis of a wide amount of Rock n' Roll.

The building is now home to Willie Dixon's Blues Heaven Foundation. In the mid-60s Chess re-located to a much larger building at 320 East 21st Street, the label's final Chicago home. Here are several links of The Chess Record Company.

harrylime: When did I call you an idiot? Hey you should know I can post rubbish sometime on this site ! Hope things are ok with you and , Trav, I don't need defending by anyone in this place, tho it was and is appreciated!

My favourite De Niro movies I think are 'Mean Streets'.. his jonnyBoy is electric .. 'The King of Comedy' .. 'Goodfellas' .. His Jimmy Conway is wierdly attractively compelling. The look on his face as that 'Cream' song is playing after the heist! Unforgettable! Yeah, ofcourse 'Taxi Driver' .. Recently watched that again.Amazing performance.

De Niro is a truly great actor whom I admire greatly. This is what I think period..

Oh and I deserve to be told to 'piss off' sometimes so no probs there lol

Hope you enjoyed London and the Olympics .. All the best mate.

Travis Bickle: <harrylime> Taxi Driver & mean Streets are great performances by DeNiro. I like the look he gives to that loudmouth toupee salesman, when he is thinking of whacking him. DeNiro gave many other great performances in The Godfather II, The Deer Hunter & Once Upon a Time in America, Awakenings & of course Raging Bull.

P.S. I found out Robert Mitchum gave DeNiro the nickname "Kid Monroe"! Probably when Mitchum did a cameo in the remake of Cape Fear. ; P

harrylime: Read an article today about Macca being too old to rock. It's really pi**ed me off.

Macca's output post Fabs is to die for .. jeez.. Only Bowie could stand up against him post Beatles.. I mean we're talking about the greatest living Englishman.

I don't care if his voice is on the wane.. I don't care if he dies his hair.. I don't care if he's 70..

Macca is Macca.

harrylime: Re Mitch and De Niro.. Well I wonder what De Niro thinks of Mitchum now? I'd love to know.

I know at the time their paths crossed briefly, when Mitch was getting old and De Niro was just starting out, both thought little of each other..

I forgot 'Heat' BTW .. De Niro in 'Heat' is awesome.
