I live in Australia and when I was active (a few years ago) was around ACF 1850, which would probably just get me a 2000 FIDE rating. Am rusty at best now and wish I could find time to play more OTB. As the old shearer says in that classic Aussie film Sunday Too Far Away: "I used to be able to go; I'm f***ed now though."

My Evergreen Game:

White: TrueFiendish Black: S Bartlett
1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 g6 4.0-0 Bg7 5.c3 Nf6 6.Re1 0-0 7.h3 e5 8.d4 cxd4 9.cxd4 exd4 10.Bf4!?(N) Re8 (...Qb6) 11.Nbd2 Qb6 12.a4 a6 13.Bc4 Nb4 (if 13...Na5 14.e5 Nh5 15. Bh2 is very good for white) 14.Qb3 (Bxf7+!) d5!? 15.exd5 Bf5!? 16.d6 Bc2 17.Bxf7+! Kf8! 18.Qc4 Bd3 19.Bxe8!! Bxc4 20.Nxc4 Qc5 (if 20...Qd8 A: 21.d7 Nbd5 [...Nxd7 22.Bd6+ Kg8 23.Bxd7 Qxd7 24.Bxb4] 22.Bd6+ Kg8 23.Ng5! B: 21.Nxd4!) 21.d7! Qxc4 22.Bd6+ Kg8 23.Ne5! Qc2 24.Bf7+ Kh8 25.Rac1 Qf5 26.g4! Ne4 27.gxf5?! (if 27.Rxe4 resigns) Nxd6 28.Rc8+ (28.Nc4!) Rxc8 29.Nxg6+ hxg6 30.dxc8Q+ Nxc8 31.Re8+ Kh7 32.fxg6+ Kh6 33.Rxc8 and wins the endgame. Wish I had played 27.Rxe4; that would have capped it off perfectly.

   Jun-16-13 G Kuzmin vs M Mukhin, 1973

TrueFiendish: 61.Bd6 Re3...

Jun-15-13 Navara vs Yifan Hou, 2013 (replies)

TrueFiendish: Maybe if takes the N then just Bd4 with attack through the middle.

   Jun-15-13 F Roeder vs W Zbikowski, 1983 (replies)

TrueFiendish: i thought Bd4 immediately might have been possible...

   Jun-02-13 Caruana vs L Dominguez, 2013 (replies)

TrueFiendish: It's just an entirely different setup for black with all sorts of possibilities, as is the case so often in the Sicilian. Makes it so hard to prepare for for white.

   May-24-13 G Crown vs Lipton, 1947 (replies)

TrueFiendish: It's a real shame about Gordon Crown. He was the shining young light of British chess, but he died at only 18. At least he didn't have to go to war.

Aug-03-07 The World vs G Timmerman, 2007 (replies)

TrueFiendish: Greetings to all at Chessgames. I hope Mr Timmerman has his playing boots on. He'll need them. Good to see 1.d4 for a bit of variety, lots of flexibility and plenty of attacking chances. One half of a move and 247 pages of kibitz! I think this thing is catching on!!

May-30-07 Y Shulman vs The World, 2007 (replies)

TrueFiendish: I voted 36...Qg6, if anyone's counting.

   Apr-17-07 L Engels vs Alekhine, 1936 (replies)

TrueFiendish: On that subject, log onto the site below and work out how close you were to beating the greats. My "Kasparov number" is 4--that is, I beat Fred Flatow, who beat Ian Rogers, who beat Lev Psakhis, who beat Kaspy!! ibeatgarry.com/

   Apr-16-07 E Goossens vs U Boensch, 2005

TrueFiendish: Yes, I wonder about 26.g3. Perhaps Kf1 to activate the king. But by the time white drops the pawn the black king has already infiltrated and he is in bad trouble anyway.

Apr-13-07 Janowski vs Lasker, 1910 (replies)

TrueFiendish: Janowski should have claimed the draw, but it would have been easy to miss.
