   Oct-08-12 Z Czajka vs A Zakaria, 1994 (replies)

Veryrusty: Go back to move 26; I think White's best is 26. Re1, one of few moves to block the sac-mate threats without (a) having to move the f3 knight and opening up a nasty discovered, or (b) allowing 26. ... Nxf3+, 27. gf, Qg1#. As far as I can tell, Re1 stops everything dead.

Aug-22-12 Alburt vs Kasparov, 1978 (replies)

Veryrusty: Doesn't <55. ... Kd3> achieve the same result? If 56. Kg1, Ke2 wins. So 56. Ke1, Ke3, 57. Kf1, f2, and so on.

   Jul-17-12 M Bartel vs Naiditsch, 2012 (replies)

Veryrusty: Black's up the Exchange and White's f pawn isn't going anywhere. Black should win.

Jul-07-12 Tkachiev vs Carlsen, 2012 (replies)

Veryrusty: If 54. Ke1, Rxd1+; 55. Kxd1, f2 is most convincing.

Jul-05-12 Kmoch vs Nimzowitsch, 1927 (replies)

Veryrusty: Regarding <rwbean>, I haven't got an engine, but it sure seems to me that Szabo's "drawing line" is a loser, because after the e6 push Black can take it off and the Rook will soon be forced to fight along. 54. Re2, Kc4; 55. f4, Kxd4; 56. f5, ef; 57. e6, Bxe6; 58. Rxe6, b2; ...

   Feb-19-12 Bunratty Masters (2012) (replies)

Veryrusty: With 22. Nxd5+, Short is crashing through against Gawain Jones. I haven't got an engine but this looks like demolition.

Jan-17-12 Navara vs Karjakin, 2012 (replies)

Veryrusty: Regarding <Superpatzer77>, not that it matters, but after <65. Kb2>, 65. ... Qd4+ does it one move quicker.

   Jan-08-12 H Olson vs M Repplinger, 2012 (replies)

Veryrusty: He was a piece up, thought he was winning, and didn't see the surprising back-rank mate threat?

   Nov-15-11 C Juarez Flores vs H Stevic, 2010 (replies)

Veryrusty: Regarding ... Nxh4+, if it's good there's no hurry to play it, since the Bishop has no moves, whereas the ... Rxc2 opportunity could run away.

   Nov-11-11 J H Donner vs Ivkov, 1966 (replies)

Veryrusty: As Ivkov put it in the tournament book, in the final position "White is playing practically with a piece less." The Knight is immobilized, White's King will be tied to the defensive, and Black's King will be able to penetrate.
