Hey My name is Les im from ohio currently age 18. I learned the rules of chess from my grandpa when i was about 10 but didnt start playing again until about 3 years ago. I started playing blitz games on pogo chess and used to think i was pretty hot stuff until someone challenged me to alonger game and got beat, bad, reapeatedly. Was then i realized that short games though fun and addictive only take your chess so far and after that you need longer games to get better. I started getting serious about chess about the same time i joined chessgames.com and have found there resources priceless in the help of my studies.

Among my favorite players are the late Lembit Oll and Jose Raul Capablanca as well as Michael Adams (even though he lost the Hydra match)Peter Leko,Vladimir Kramnik,Garry Kasparov, and Bobby Fischer and most recently Hikaru Nakamura, and Viswanathan Anand. It has always been my opinion that must home taught players begin chess with 1.d4 because it is the safest and when they get better they move on to 1.e3,e4 and such because of the tactics and when they finally get those down the go back to 1.d4 and when that happens they become great players. But the ones who start playing with 1.e4 become spectacular.

Favorite Quotes: if you think you see a good move look for a better one-- me

The ones who make good moves will always yield to the ones who make the best moves-- Grandpa

Too find your next move you must first find your opponents-- an old friend

Favorite Openings: White in descending order Reti Kings pawn- Ruy lopez Sicilian Closed French Tarrasch Pirc Austiran Attack Grob "spike" English Queens Gambit Sokolsky. Black Pirc Sicillian Queens Gambit Declined Tartakower Englund gambit Caro Kann French.

I see so many questions in kibitzer cafe go unanswered that i just decide not to talk most of the time.Im by no means a kibitzer i just post when i have a question or am giving an answer to a question which rarely happens.

I have recently been competing in USCF rated tournaments, my quick rating is some how around 1900 and my slow rating looms through the 1950-2000 region but it is still provisional.

You can find me on most chess sites under UnorthodoxPlayer i am always open to any challenge.

a30seclegend: <greensfield> I think any move other than 39.e4 and black plays f5 which is still probally losing but a little more difficult.

a30seclegend: <hitman84> 1..b3 2. Rd1 Ra2+ 3.Kf3 Rxh2 4.Rb1 b2 was the most forcing line i could find after the kings begin to move in you will atleast be able to pick up the g or c pawn.

a30seclegend: The line would have to go 15...Be6 16.Nxc7 Qc8 17.Nxa8 Bxc4 which is still kind of shaky for black after trading the bishops and picking up the pawn but much better than the latter

a30seclegend: i think in either case it allows black to play e5 allowing a philidors defense.

   Sep-04-07 Tal vs R Balins, 1954

a30seclegend: 35..Kg6 36.Rb1 h5 37. a5 bxa5 38. Rb5 wins pretty straight foreward for white.

a30seclegend: What a high percent of White wins in this tournament. Is this the highest percent of White or Black wins in a tournament recorded?

a30seclegend: Too bad about this game white lost a winning position with Rf7+ followed by Rxf8+

a30seclegend: Very nice game. I think opposed to 15.Ng3 white should of moved f4 kicking the knight away from e5 and after d5 playing e5 to make a post for the light squared bishop.

a30seclegend: What are the terms for voting for moves? I am adamant on moving Rf6 but i feel i should save my vote for the last minute. Is it possible to make it on the candidate list without actually voting for the move?
