Dec-10-12 Carlsen vs Anand, 2012 (replies)

apple scruffs: Q ex or no Q ex? Houdini gives the Queen exchange as its top line but personally I'd rather see a middlegame with Queens on.

apple scruffs: Nice interview. Thanks for the link, <viktor2>. In the interview, Carlsen mentions a game with Anand. I think this is the game alluded to: Carlsen vs Anand, 2012 . Carlsen also mentions a Knight retreat in that game, a move that wasn't very easy to find. Here's the ...

Dec-07-12 London Chess Classic (2012) (replies)

apple scruffs: Got reminded of Karpov vs Hug, 1969 except that there Hug didn't find the killer move 29...Qf3. Adams took so long to play 41...Qd1 I began to suspect he hadn't seen it. He had, of course. He was just checking the variations.

apple scruffs: Damn it, Jim Bartle, did you really have to brag? You made me eat my heart out! Did you dig it when they played "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed"?

   Nov-14-12 Vassily Ivanchuk (replies)

apple scruffs: Planet Ivanchuk has been found. They're calling it CFBDSIR2149 at the moment but I'm hoping the IAU, the International Astronomical Union, will see the light and give this planet the name it really deserves. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/...

Sep-19-12 FIDE Grand Prix London (2012) (replies)

apple scruffs: <achk>, thanks for reminding me. I'd almost forgotten Adams withdrew from the GP...couple years ago, wasn't it?

Aug-15-12 World Junior Championship (Girls) (2012) (replies)

apple scruffs: Qi, Bodnaruk, Ziaziulkina, and Medina, all with 9.5.

   Jun-30-12 Y Yu vs M R Venkatesh, 2012 (replies)

apple scruffs: And so the claim for a threefold would be invalid, as FSR tells us. But the pun is godawful horrible...and I just love it!

Jun-30-12 Russian Chess Championships Higher League (Women) (2012) (replies)

apple scruffs: A mere matter of spelling, but I'd say Kovanova was a Supanova.
