I am from Uruguay, and play chess since I was a child, but my style of play will be forever childish. Nowadays, my real passion is to study old games, problems, and chess history. My favourite period goes from 1851 to 1938. (ah, those times...)

   Oct-24-09 Marshall vs Mieses, 1901

capanegra: <<GrahamClayton> What is the checkmating variation for Mieses if Marshall had played 19.Kh3?> 19…Qh6+ ...

capanegra: According to article 58 of FIFA's regulations, apparently Maradona might be punished and would have to pay a fine of USD 25000 and a five games suspension for his declarations after the game with Uruguay, regarding Argentine journalists who had criticized him. ...

capanegra: <Jim> Very dumb indeed. Actually, I’ve been listening (from abroad) the debate around Obama’s proposal to health care reform, and found that many people have been arguing too excitedly, even to the extreme of reaching levels of sheer ignorance (or are they just calumnies?). ...

   Aug-25-09 K Shirazi vs S Krivoshey, 2001

capanegra: 7…e5 seems to be a very good move, and interestingly this is the only game I found in the database with this line. The Blackmar-Diemer is an excellent choice for White in case of speed chess (one slight mistake in the opening and Black is frequently cooked). Nevertheless, it is ...

Aug-11-09 M Umansky vs The World, 2009 (replies)

capanegra: Hi, I just visited this game from time to time, and didn't study enough the current position. Could anyone of the draw defenders please show me the perp if we respond 36…Qxe2 with no draw acceptance?

   Jun-15-09 Friedrich Samisch (replies)

capanegra: I found the following position from a game Samisch-Ahues (Hamburg 1946), in which Samisch won beautifully with a shocking move which explodes the theme of closing the enemy's lines. Does anybody recognize it and has the full score? White to play and win [DIAGRAM]

   Jun-03-09 Teichmann vs Spielmann, 1913

capanegra: Great game by Teichmann. <Whitehat1963> better if the middlegame puzzle starts after 14...Qb6; 15.b4! is the real beginning of the combination.

   May-13-09 Charousek vs Burn, 1897

capanegra: On second sight, 27.Rh4 was OK. However, 29.Rdh1? was the final mistake. After 29.Ng5 Bc4+ 30.Rd3 Bxd3+ 31.cxd3 Black has nothing better than 32…Kf8 to prevent mate, which would lead to draw by repetition of moves.

   Apr-19-09 Jose Bademian

capanegra: José Bademian (Born on April 27 of 1927) was Uruguayan Champion in 1976. Here is a beautiful game he played sixty years ago, full of complications and tactical shots. [Event "Porto Alegre"] [Site "Porto Alegre"] [Date "1950.??.??"] [EventDate "?"] [Round "?"] ...

   Apr-03-09 Weeramantry vs J Berrocal, 2006 (replies)

capanegra: Nice counter play to the Milner-Barry gambit by Black. Actually, as a French defense player I like more the all or nothing variation of grabbing a second Pawn with 10…Qxe5 than the more circumspect 10…a6. Anyway, could at some stage of the game Mr. Weeramantry reply in a better ...
