  malthrope: My dear <capatal> ! :))

Seemingly I forgot something (a promise made to you months ago albeit still in the works). Old Chess masters never forget, we just become slower to match our age! ~lol~

In the meantime, just wanted to let you know that you are now proudly featured in my current...

Which also features a sidebar postscript to that ever clever devil <Sneaky> ;)

So, you keep up the good work with your fabulous Chess quotes and sage commentary which is priceless! :D

Although, I must admit being caught in a rare "double-take" after reading this one...

Quickly I thought to myself, <"Did Capa really say that?!"> ~ROFL~ I'd never seen that quote before... It had me in stitches! :P

In addition just to tide you over, until I get my act together, here are two amusing GIFS for you.

Watch the bouncing ball on the mini-chessboard... Always entertaining! ;)

The games afoot! Don't blink or you'll miss the 'fin' not to mention where to find the bloody pub! ~lol~ Hope you haven't seen either one of these GIFS before. :)

In closing, I duly promise to post your belated "present" <b-e-f-o-r-e> I begin posting my Simul games against Grandmasters in my chessforum. Specifically these four games played against Pal Benko (Blitz - Piatigorsky Cup 1963), Walter Shawn Browne (Simul - March 12, 1970), Svetozar Gligoric (Simul - March 4, 1971), and Florin Gheorghiu (Simul - Aug 23, 1971). Care to wager as to what I scored against this elite group of Grandmasters? Oh come on now take a wild guess! :P

*** S P O I L E R - S P A C E ***

3-1! <grin>

Scoring wins against Benko (in Blitz I beat Benko in 11 moves - I checkmated him at the age of 15!), and also the Yugoslav legend Gligoric (beat Gligoric in a simul by grinding him down in a R + P's endgame - naturally!). Draws with Browne and Gheorghiu... :))

I've played many more wonderful gems of course and this one was meant originally for <Thrajin>, <A Karpov Fan>, <virginmind> & <brankat> plus all my other friends too! :D I only promised these GM Simul games to them two months ago! <sheepish grin exposed again> o_O

Sincerely, - Mal

PS: Just to refresh your memory my "present" involves the statements made in your Profile! I'll let you ponder that one until it's ready! ;-)

"A human being is a part of a whole, called by us _universe_, a part limited in time and space.

He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest... a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness.

This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us.

Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty." -

What distinguishes the great names from the average grandmaster is an incredible, incredible sense of confidence, and it's palpable.

It's not just a question of being gutsy or courageous. It's a question of belief, of confidence, of knowing it's going to happen.

That's something a Fischer has, a Kasparov has: an incredible sense of self. -

It's not enough to be talented. You must also become intimately aware of the methods you use to reach your decisions.

Self-awareness is essential in being able to combine your knowledge, experience and talent to reach your peak performance.

capatal: <Ben Franklin's Gambit> During a chess game one day in France in the midst of the American struggle for independence, his French opponent maneuvered into an attack position and put Franklin in check. Franklin replied with a blatantly illegal move: he ignored the check and moved an unrelated piece. His astonished opponent naturally objected. Cannot you see, sir, that your king is in check?

"I see he is in check," Franklin impishly implied. " But I shall not defend him. If he was a good king, like yours, he would deserve the protection of his subjects; but he is a tyrant and has cost them already more than he is worth. Take him, if you please. I can do without him, and will fight out the rest of the battle en republicain." -
