"Black queen" - Pawn must go on

Empty squares - what we are playing for?
Abandoned chairs - I guess we know the score..
On and on!
Does anybody know what piece I’m looking for?

Another bishop - another mindless sac
Behind the pawn-line, in the wild attack
Hold the f-line!
Does anybody want to queen it anymore?

The pawn must go on!
The pawn must go on!
Inside my king is hiding
The tactics may be blinding
But my knight still stays on..

Whatever happens, I’ll leave it all to chance
Another Spanish, another failed advance
On and on!
Does anybody know what we are drawing for?
I guess I’m learning
I must be calmer now
I’ll soon be playing French and Dragon now
On the board the pawn is crying
But inside the db I’m dying for h3..

The pawn must go on!
The pawn must go on!
Inside my king is hiding
The tactics may be blinding
But my knight still stays on..

My board is painted like the wings of dragonflies
Losing games of yesterday, will draw but never die!
I can play, my friends!

The pawn must go on!
The pawn must go on!
I’ll face it with a pin
I’m never giving in
On with the pawn!

I’ll play the mill,
I’ll overkill!
I have to find the will to carry on!
On with the,
On with the pawn

The pawn must go on…

catfriend: We all wonder what was White thinking. I think he expected to be able to penetrate into the 7th rank: after 20.a3, White's threatening 21. Be2 Rb6 22. Rc7 with lots of compensation. Maybe, looking ahead, this was luring enough for him to miss the couple of strong moves by ...

catfriend: According to crestbook.com, it's 100 minutes for 40 moves, 50 minutes for next 20, 15 minutes to finish the game, plus 30 sec increment since move 1.

catfriend: <ajax333221> beautiful line, there! For a moment I was concerned about 27. Re8+ but after 27..Rxe8 28. Qxe8+ Kg7, all White can do is give his queen to avoid immediate mate.

catfriend: I want to thank chessgames.com again for the free 60-days gift, as detailed by Ezzy. My favorite is (as usual) Kramnik, but I wouldn't be too sad to see Caruana win. Of course, a victory by Anand will add intrigue before the upcoming match.

catfriend: < Mr Beethoven must be a big Nakamura fan, he wants to see middlegame blood.> In that case he probably enjoys the following: Carlsen vs Nakamura, 2013 Carlsen vs Nakamura, 2011 Carlsen vs Nakamura, 2011 and so on ;)

catfriend: <HMM: "and, especially, the short, 12 game format"> The 12-game format was there since 2006. If someone finds the 2006, 2008, 2010 matches dull <because of the format> I disagree with them strongly. (Not that I wouldn't welcome a longer match!) If someone finds those ...

   May-11-13 Caruana vs G Meier, 2013

catfriend: It it strange that the comments don't mention what seems to me an important improvement: 12..Bc5 13. Rxe6+ Qxe6 14. Re1 Qxe1+ 15. Bxe1 0-0 and this endgame looks fine for black. What can White do? c4 is blockaded and weak, slow static play will even get White in trouble: 16. a3 ...

   Apr-22-13 Vladimir Kramnik (replies)

catfriend: <However, if they played a very long series of games, eventually that edge would have been reflected in their own head-to-head games as well, and Carlsen would have won such a match > Well, that's a legitimate, and not even improbable, opinion. After all, Carlsen <is> ...

catfriend: <Rambo_Jr91: This just got a little harder, didn't it, Kramnik? Not that easy when it's not a former Soviet-player you're facing? > chessbomb kibitzing has many low moments, but I think this one is a candidate for #1.

   Mar-12-13 Geller vs Smyslov, 1965

catfriend: <vikram2791: In the end how does White win?> Well, it depends on what Black does of course. 31..Qxg4 gets him mated 32. Rf8+ Rxf8 33. Rxf8+ Kg7 34. h8=Q# White threatens 32. Qxg7+ Kxg7 33. Rf7+ Kh6 34. Rf8. If Black defends by 31..Bd5, then 32. Qxg7+ Kxg7 33. Rf8 Rxf8 34. ...
