|Aug-01-12|| ||chessgames.com: <Boomie> An interesting suggestion. I personally really like it but I don't want my personal biases to steer database decisions.|
<Stonehenge> I'm sure you're right. Hastily copied from some list of quotes online, no doubt. I always found it to be a vapid quote anyhow.
|Aug-01-12|| ||chessgames.com: Sorry it took so long to get the British Championships (2012) online, the official site was sending crazy PGN with dates in 2013, people assigned each other's games, you name it. Fortunately the User: CG Librarian almost has it perfect now; we're just putting finishing touches on it.|
|Aug-03-12|| ||Stonehenge: <CG> I don't know if this is important but just in case:|
|Aug-03-12|| ||chessgames.com: Oh it will be important next month. Last time they changed the format it was a "surprise update" that fouled lots of software--nice of them to give us a warning this time. Thanks for the heads-up.|
|Aug-03-12|| ||twinlark: Hi <ceegee>
Just a heads up that you only have round 2 of the World Junior loaded.
|Aug-04-12|| ||Eyal: <CG> Are you going to download the games from the Biel Open ("Master") tournament? There were quite a lot of strong 2500s & 2600s there (http://www.bielchessfestival.ch/en/...).|
|Aug-04-12|| ||tolengoy: Hi CG!
Just dropped by to bring you this stark observation...for your consideration...Thanks.
<BinisladNaBugaong: Maybe the question was what everyone has been wondering about: why is there a page here called The World vs. Akobian? Isn't it a fact that Akobian is also part of the world? Why not just do what the USSR did before, say Akobian vs. The Rest of the World? Or maybe style it as The World Except Akobian vs. Akobian by His Lonesome? Chessplayers are supposed to strive towards precision!>
|Aug-04-12|| ||Diademas: Hi CG.
The activities of the fan-base of the player ranked 99th in the world (yes, the Phillipino Messiah) has spilled out of the reservoir.
First the dribble took up some 70 pages on the world blitz site, and the fan(atic)s are now trying to hijack the Carsen page. I see that some of the culprits are now aproching this very page.
Can this be adressed?
Im starting to develop negative stereotypes about a hole nation, and thats not good...
|Aug-05-12|| ||Benzol: <chessgames> Are you intending to have pages for the World Correspondence Chess Championships eventually?|
|Aug-05-12|| ||chessgames.com: <World Correspondence Chess Championships eventually> Eventually yes. Of course we'd love to have that but it's an ambitious project.|
|Aug-06-12|| ||chessgames.com: We're going to do our best to cover Grischuk vs Jakovenko, 2012 tomorrow morning at our live broadcast page. Games start at 7:00am. Hope to see you there!|
|Aug-07-12|| ||whiteshark: If of any interest - the <Hogeschool Zeeland Chess Tournament 2012> is underway, too.|
Tournament page: http://www.hztoernooi.nl/hz/index.p...
|Aug-07-12|| ||chessgames.com: Brilliant, thanks. We were wondering why Illya Nyzhnyk wasn't at the World Junior Championship (2012).|
|Aug-08-12|| ||Stonehenge: <CG> The Live Game has a link to the wrong Alekseev: |
|Aug-08-12|| ||chessgames.com: Ooops, thanks.|
|Aug-09-12|| ||kingscrusher: Hi Chessgames.com
Whilst the World Chess Championship resource link is great to help me track my own evolution of Chess style series, I am making increasingly heavy use of Olympiad games:
This site in particular seems to have the PGNs of the various Olympiads.
I believe these Olympiads show the strongest players of the particular years who are not necessarily world champions or contenders. In the case for example of Alekhine, it is not necessarily true that Bogo... was the best contender. Both Flohr, and Rubinstein come into mind around 1931 if you check the Olympiad performances e.g.
Gives you this info:
no. name code pts gms %
1. Rubinstein, Akiba POL 15 17 88.2
2. Flohr, Salomon CSR 14˝ 17 85.3
3. Kashdan, Isaac USA 14 17 82.4
4. Marshall, Frank James USA 12˝ 17 73.5
5.= Havasi, Kornél HUN 12 14 85.7
5.= Tartakower, Ksawery POL 12 16 75.0
5.= Lundin, Erik SWE 12 17 70.6
The point here is, and the point of the suggestion is I think the World championships page you have can be shown in parallel to the Olympiads maybe - to get an idea of a year by year basis of the best players of the time. This also of course would help track the evolution of Chess style too, because I think these games were quite widely publicised as well as the World championship related games.
So more concretely it would be nice to have at the bottom of Chessgames.com:
" Player Directory | World Chess Championships ..."
" Player Directory | World Chess Championships | Chess Olympiads..."
|Aug-09-12|| ||whiteshark: Hi ceegee,
imagine the algo would have ordered (your) premium memberships at the same tempo for just ONE minute...
fireworks, champagne, ... [uhh, this is a family site]
Have a nice day! :D
|Aug-09-12|| ||Stonehenge: <Ooops, thanks.>

|Aug-09-12|| ||chessgames.com: <kingscrusher> Chessgames and its staff is ever awed by Olimpbase. It's one of the oldest, most accurate, and most well organized chess resources on the internet. They truly raised the bar on what people expect out of chess sites, and we use their resources all the time.|
I like the idea of imitating their work in our own distinct way. It's highly related to what we're working on right now behind the scenes, the forthcoming "Historical Tournament" feature.
|Aug-09-12|| ||Jim Bartle: On the Carlsen page the administrators asked that discussion of Wesley So be limited to So's page. That appeal has had limited effect so far.|
Several of So's supporters want to convince the rest of us that Carlsen is at the top of the ratings only because of favoritism and "pampering," and by inference that So would be there had he received the same treatment. These kibitzers seem ready to argue this on any page where a related subject comes up.
My suggestion would be to be strict about limiting this discussion to the Wesley So page, and perhaps still to the World Blitz 2012 page where it relates to the non-invites to So, Ponomariov and others.
|Aug-09-12|| ||TheFocus: I agree with <MarkFinan> about the Carlsen page. And get them off the Robert Fischer page too.|
|Aug-09-12|| ||Bureaucrat: I agree with Mark Finan, Jim Bartle and TheFocus. Please don't let those trolls disguised as 'Wesley So fans' trash the Carlsen page, the Fischer page, or any other page they visit.|
|Aug-09-12|| ||MarkFinan: Good men.. :)
And If <Rogge> <Appaz> <frogbert>and <KKderek> don't feel the same...... I'll be very shocked !
|Aug-09-12|| ||rogge: I'm sure I agree, but there seem to be a couple of posts missing :)|
|Aug-09-12|| ||chessgames.com: <MarkFinan: <chessgames.com> Can you please tell me when you changed the name of this great site Into "WesleySo'sfanatics.com" ??>|
We have received several Whistles (complaints) related to that issue, but none from you. Please do not come here to post a public complaint about specific users or groups of users. We don't allow that any more.
You mention racism in your (now deleted) post but I think that is an exceptional case and not the core problem. If you want to pursue that, please submit a Whistle slip on the specific post and we'll review it. However, the real problem here--we believe--is that people are posting on topics outside of the stated page subject.
For instance, recently we've seen posts on Carlsen's page were really about Wesley So, with the only apparent reason for the post being there is the fact that Carlsen has the highest FIDE rating and Wesley So doesn't.
Not long before that, we saw a number of posts on the World Blitz Championship which mentioned Wesley So. Why was this relevant? Apparently because Wesley was NOT playing in it.
Of course, these are not valid interpretations of what we regard as "on topic" for these pages.
We assume such behavior annoys people, and if our members point it out to us, we'll delete posts or groups of posts that are off-topic. We do it all the time. And as you know, when we delete too many posts from the same person then they are identified as an "egregious violator" and they get put on kibitzing probation.
However it's CRITICAL that you use the official channels (the Whistle link) to submit your complaint about it. If you engage off-topic posters on the same pages that they are polluting, or on this page, then you end up simply contributing to the pollution. Thank you.
