I live in <RSwitzerlandR>. I've been playing chess since I was eight with some breaks in between. At present I am 36.

I was in <QNew OrleansK> a couple of years ago and visited Saint Louis Cemetery No. 1 without knowing that Paul Morphy was buried there. I would have loved to visit his grave and pay homage to him.

If you're new to this site these are some places you should check out to find out what we do on this site: Oleg Romanishin, City of Moscow, Raymond Keene, ?, Beer, Raymond Allen Weinstein, John Homer Stapfer, Charles H Storey, Game Collection: Chessgames.com members in action, User: nikolaas

Before I forget: Chess isn't my only passion. <Go Cubs!> This will be the year!

Benzol: <cu8sfan> <Will I meet any of you there?> Only if I win at Lotto.

Good luck against Spassky and watch out for the Kings Gambit.

cu8sfan: 2 wins against lower rated opponents, 2 losses against higher rated ones, so far I am playing my rating, no more, no less.

cu8sfan: 2 heart-breaking losses today. What really bothers me is that I am yet to be paired with a player that is within 150 points of my rating. NOT FAIR!

cu8sfan: 3.5 out of 9 - not what I was hoping for. My chess was bad but it was a wonderful tournament. Can't wait for my game against Spassky now.

cu8sfan: Playing Spassky was great fun. He had a mean demeanor in the beginning but started to loosen up towards the end. I lasted 30 moves which was my goal. And he DID play the King's Gambit against 1...e5.

Open Defence: congrats for your play in the simul!

commisserations in our game, things were very even until I was able to trade a rook for 2 pieces and after 17.fxg4 which game me a lot of pressure against your King

Aug-23-09  Jim Bartle: Are we going to see the moves?? (I hope.)

cu8sfan: <Open Defence> I'm going through a bit of a dry spell. I am playing badly and lost about 30 points in my last tournament. Well, I don't get to play often in the summer time, I think things will get better in fall. :-)

Dec-10-09  SamAtoms1980: Well done. I was on last night while the clue was open and there was a big window but I couldn't capitalize on it. I thought the painting was a van Gogh, and I thought we were looking for a game where a computer was playing somebody. (Almost certainly one of <chessgames.com>'s infamous red herrings.) I thought I was about to connect when I discovered this in the database (V stands for Vincent):

Deep Thought vs V McCambridge, 1988

The skill level of the people on here who run down these things is just mind-boggling.

Dec-10-09  Manic: <SamAtoms1980> My exact thinking haha. I did think of Monet as the painter but always thought it was IBM computer vs somebody.

That's one down for <cu8sfan>. Four more to go to maintain the average of 5 solved clues per year. Stop stealing my prizes!!!

crawfb5: Well done on getting an early one. I actually had found Simonet, but only had time to look at his black games before leaving for work as I hadn't twigged to the <Si> abbreviation. Sigh.

BVer: As a Cubs fan you will appreciate what Yankee fans resort to: http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/12/22...

cu8sfan: <BVer> That's a very sad story. I always thought sports fans in America were more civilized than those you encounter in Europe. I went to see the Cubs play in Atlanta, in full Cubs regalia, and when you get taunted, you taunt back, and everybody laughs. In Europe, they need to physically seperate "fans" so they won't beat each other up. Every weekend they play football there is chaos and destruction on the streets, it's very sad.

Two more things:

1. How bad can taunts get when you're a Yankees fan? I mean, they are hated, but, come on, the Yankees have about three rings per finger to counter any taunts. Hard to argue with that.

2. That woman's a Yankees fan. She could have pledged to be of unsound mind. At least she deserves pitty... ;-)

Thanks for the kind words. I'll try to do better in 2010. Dave

Dec-28-09  wordfunph: <cu8sfan: There were hundreds of fans requesting an autograph and I'm guessing he wouldn't sign one because if you sign one, you'll have to sign two etc. I told him, he just played me, and then he said, show me the scoresheet and he meant he were obliged to sign the scoresheet of an opponent and so at least he signed my scoresheet. :-)>

hehe..gracias amigo. :-)>
