 | | dakgootje: ;)
I've been watching some shows by Dylan Moran lately - who happens to be a brilliant comedian. Certainly one of my favorites. Anyway, his shtick is that he seems a bit tipsy or drunk. So that state allows him to be a bit loud, make illogic generalizations and be in a perpetual state of bewilderment and slight anger. He mastered it brilliantly. So I figured I'd give it a swing as well with my previous post :P |

 | | Memethecat: <dak> Dylan Moran's stand-up stuff is hilarious. He made a sit-com a few years back with the same character, (I assume its a made up persona for comedy effect) it was called Black Books & was OK but nowhere near as good as his live stuff, IMO. Still, if your a fan you might like it. Bill Bailey another very funny comic/musician was in it too. |

 | | dakgootje: I've actually seen the whole black books series :) think about 2 years ago. You are quite right - overall thought it was good.. but his stand-up is undoubtedly much better. I've seen Bill Bailey in quiz-shows, where he is hilarious - not a big fan of his stand up work though :\ By the way, his 4 shows are viewable full-length at youtube [whereas previously only bits and pieces could be found] http://www.youtube.com/user/TheBaro... One of the shows.. 'Yeah Yeah' I think is blocked for me, though it is also on.. youku I think. Anyway, one of those chinese videosites which doesn't seem to care about copyright, readable interfaces or -indeed- anything else. |

 | | dakgootje: ha! there are apparently games going on in Dubai!
Also Van Wely lost to some 2400-guy, but I guess that's no news. |
 |
Apr-21-12
 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: Yes, anybody can beat Van Wely, and Van Wely can beat anybody :) |
 |
Apr-22-12
 | | dakgootje: figured it was time to really start the leg with some properly sized bets. Let's just say I crashed.
And burned. |
 |
Apr-22-12
 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: Look on the bright side - plenty of time to mount a comeback :) |
 |
Apr-23-12
 | | dakgootje: sure - I just gave myself a bit of a challenge ;D |
 |
Apr-23-12
 | | dakgootje: I'm a bit in doubt..
Got 86% for a methodics exam. Which is uncommonly high in general - and considering it's in the masters-phase, you can square that uncommonly high. Thing is. I understood the matter very well indeed and the only mistakes can really be due to oversights or perhaps forgetting to consider some detail. So I expected something like 93%, give or take some percent. And I'm a bit disappointed.
So I'm still debating whether to be just happy with the 86, or ask to see which mistakes I made. Which seems a bit perfectionistic and silly. heh, spoke two fellow students today who thought they'd done okayish - and they had 53 and 62, so I had already lowered my expectations a bit ;) |
 |
Apr-23-12
 | | hms123: <dak> Be very happy with 86 and also ask to see what mistakes you made. Who knows? You might learn an extra little tidbit. Just make sure the prof knows that you are very happy with the score and not being a silly perfectionist. "I guess I could add a few more points....Oh no! No need for that...I am just here to learn." |
 |
Apr-23-12
 | | dakgootje: heh probably the best idea - I'll do that :) |
 |
Apr-24-12
 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: <lucky> Good luck for round 3 of Kramnik-Aronian :) Doesn't look as if you crashed after all... |
 |
Apr-24-12
 | | dakgootje: not? there were only 4 sides, and I lost twice the amount of my max-bet :P of course, absolutely seen, a loss of roughly 400 isn't that huge. |
 |
Apr-24-12
 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: I was expecting to see you at -500 :) |
 |
Apr-24-12
 | | dakgootje: heh, then I've should've max-bet all normal sides and have something like 900 in the pick-3 [on a 4k handle]. And lose all ;) heh, would've been a major challenge to lose that much ;D |
 |
Apr-25-12
 | | dakgootje: unless the odds change a lot in the last 30 minutes, there'll be no bets for me today Been a bit quiet with big superGM-tournaments lately. Either a superGM one-on-one like aronian kramnik or the upcoming anand-gelfand; or large opens with fairly few 2700+. Must've been months since I could bet on Carlsen murdering his opponents. :( |
 |
Apr-27-12
 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: <dakkie> Good luck for round 5! Maybe you should help sponsor some supertournaments (with your university's money of course) :) |
 |
Apr-30-12
 | | dakgootje: ha! well, free day today to celebrate Queens day [that is: birthday of the belated queens-mum] Better try and finish a GTM-game I started.. when the year was still new and layered beneath chili-ice. |
 |
May-01-12
 | | dakgootje: well, had an appointment to look into my 86%-exam today. Turns out I had indeed made it almost flawlessly. Except for the very last question, which I had misread and only scored 2/10. So had I scored that one on par with the other questions, I'd have had around 92%, which is practically what I had expected up front. So yeah, mainly gave it away on 1 question. Which is a shame, but it's good to see I indeed understood almost everything and had a correct assessment of my own understanding. So I left quite satisfied :)
ps: most other missed points where indeed oversights; assuming some ideas were self-evident whereas I should've just completely written them out. |
 |
May-01-12
 | | hms123: <dak> All's well that ends well. |
 |
May-05-12
 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: More tasty betting action today! Time for you to uncrash maybe? :) |
 |
May-05-12
 | | dakgootje: Ah! Terrific! :)
I'm certainly planning to uncrash :) |
 |
May-05-12
 | | dakgootje: oh - no pick-3 :( |
 |
May-05-12
 | | dakgootje: Actually - I took quite a fancy to crashing. Think I'll try it some more. |
 |
May-09-12
 | | dakgootje: Upsets aren't really doing well in the Capablanca-tournament. Hope for some better luck at the US-championship :) |
