Living in Thunder Bay, Canada (Chess Federation of Canadian #145620) where my hobbies are fishing, hiking, baseball, forestry, guitar and brewing. I'm a huge Leafs fan and hope I live to see the day that they win the Stanley Cup again. GO LEAFS GO!!! I don't have a favourite player but have studied a fair bit of Fine, Fischer, Ftacnik (and other modern players that don't have names starting with "F"). I've played for over 20 years, all recreational. Correspondence chess (IECC) has helped my studies.

My current endeavours with 1.d4 have been fun and successful. Currently studying the Slav as black thanks to Kramnik's recent improvements.

Most of the fun is in middle game tactics. Maintaining or stealing the initiative is my current study. I love sacrifices and combinations, the comments of L.Day, R.Keene (and now S.Polgar and E.Schiller) and the rest of the professional and amateur chessfriends on this site have helped motivate me on that.

For a while I didn't have any game collections because I'm lazy and see other kibitzers have great ones anyway. But I broke down and now I have 1 (woops! - 3, ah hell it's always growing).

e4Newman: wonderful player Ms.Humpy is... does anyone have insight on her association with ONGC? "I work with the oil company ONGC (Oil and Natural Gas Corporation) as Deputy Manager" http://chessbase.com/newsdetail.asp...

e4Newman: <Have the facts about Steinitz's birtday been established? I believe I've seen May, 18th 183something as well.> it's fun watching this discussion about steinitz every year on my bday cheers

e4Newman: <check out his 1st album solo w/ the jersey on the back cover.> and if you can't be with the one you love...

   Nov-18-07 Kamsky vs Jakovenko, 2007

e4Newman: 31.Raxb4 is too deep (or foolish) for me to understand. And what's with 22.Nf1?? Doesn't 22.axb5 gain a tempo after the queen retreats?

   Nov-13-07 Shirov vs Ivanchuk, 2007

e4Newman: ok - i play zaitsef lots as black. i don't get 14...nd4? but then 18...nd3 seems plausible. and then 19...Nxe1 should be a no-brainer. why didn't ivanchuk play it? he's the leading expert on these lines.

Oct-21-07 Krasenkow vs Nakamura, 2007 (replies)

e4Newman: nice play by nakamura. i often play a similar setup as white, starting off with Nf3-b3-Bb2. but here i don't like Bg2.

Oct-21-07 Jansa vs Geller, 1970 (replies)

e4Newman: nice puzzle...i guessed the first few moves but didn't know how to finish it off with the pin on the rook. that's really the key here it think
