   Dec-16-18 Spielmann vs A Siderius, 1930 (replies)

fkohn: Was Black's last move an unwitting blunder or did he want to be put out of his misery? I don't see a way for White to proceed if Black simply plays 31 ... Kg8

   Dec-16-18 Spielmann vs A Van Nuess, 1928

fkohn: And in similar fashion 37. ... Rc7 is met by 38. Re7

Dec-15-18 Spielmann vs Gruenfeld, 1922 (replies)

fkohn: Stockfish lite likes Black's position better at game's end. It likes 22. ... Qe4+ pretty well, but 22. ... Rf8 better.

Dec-15-18 Rubinstein vs Spielmann, 1921 (replies)

fkohn: I must admit I had to feed this into a computer to understand why Black resigned. White's threat is 37. Rf4 followed by 38. Rh4

   Dec-14-18 Teichmann vs Spielmann, 1909

fkohn: It took me a minute to get the point. On 17...gxf6 18. Qg3+ Kh8 19. Qh4 Black must give up his Queen to prevent mate.

   Dec-13-18 E G Sergeant vs G A Thomas, 1935

fkohn: Stockfish lite gives 35. Ke2 Kxd5 36. Kd3 c4+ 37. Kc3 Kc5 38. a6 Kb6 39. Kxc4 Kxa6 and evaluates Black as slightly better. But I think this is a pretty clear win for Black.

   Dec-13-18 Capablanca vs G A Thomas, 1929 (replies)

fkohn: so after 53. g6 Kf8 holds out for a few moves. Did Capa really miss the #3 after 53. Rh8+ Kf7 54. Kf5 ? or is there a problem with the score?

   Dec-13-18 G A Thomas vs P D Bolland, 1924

fkohn: Is Black not ok after 54. ... Nxg5 ?

   Dec-12-18 J Mieses vs J Balogh, 1918 (replies)

fkohn: Is this game really resignable here?

   Dec-09-18 Menchik vs T Drezga, 1934 (replies)

fkohn: I'm assuming White won on time.
