Six months after I learned to play Chess, the Fischer-Spassky Match began. It also happened to coincide with my family moving overseas. I found myself mostly confined inside with no TV or other kids around, so I studied each game for hours. After playing a lot as a kid, I rarely played at all for the next 30 years. About 3 years ago, I started to want to play again and began reading a bit and playing through games on ChessGames. I bought Fritz in August 2007, which really got me going. I have had one "click" so far, when I all of a sudden I saw a lot more stuff and it started to feel more cohesive with less calculation. I'm still waiting for that next "click" though.

ghall3: Hi Notyetagm-- I find your analysis, tips, and game collections to be top notch-- they are certainly appreciated in this quarter. About three years ago I decided to start playing Chess again after a long layoff. Do you ever do individual online coaching (i.e., with compensation)? ...

ghall3: That school children aren't pervasively drug tested is a legitimate point. I believe your characterization of the situation, however, is overstated. For instance, I am fairly certain that the local school district does drug testing for high school football players. In my experience, ...
