holland oats: <Memethecat: So white Queens 1st, then 1.Rxh6+ Kxh6 2.Qh8+ wins> That will work, or just Qxh1 immediately :)

holland oats: The title helped, but I was a little slow to put together the alt-code/surrogate connection. Clever no doubt!

   Dec-09-13 M Bartel vs B Khatanbaatar, 2013

holland oats: How Bazar

Oct-03-13 Nakamura vs Gelfand, 2013 (replies)

holland oats: Holy smokes! Is this the same guy who's main weapon against 1.e4 was the Russian game in his title run circa the 2007 WC tournament? This game shows a transformation to fun-loving trigger-happy attacks with black a la Kramnik after he lost the title. Get it Gelfy!

   Sep-25-13 L Dominguez vs A Giri, 2013 (replies)

holland oats: 12...Nxe4 13.Qd3 runs into Bf5. I was looking at 13.Re1 Be6 and found some cool tricks for white e.g. 14.Bc1 f5 and PUZZLE TIME white to play: [DIAGRAM]

Sep-20-13 Yifan Hou vs A Ushenina, 2013 (replies)

holland oats: I agree NYGM. You hear it in sports all the time--it's the close matches that keep you up late considering how things could have turned out. I just hope Anna is not too deflated to bounce back.

   Aug-25-13 World Cup (2013) (replies)

holland oats: Impressive performance so far from Lagravy Train. He is undefeated, and in the only two matches going to tiebreak (against stalwarts Gelfand and Caruana) he comfortably held with black and dismantled his opponents with white in rapid games. I think he has more incentive than ...

   Jul-29-13 G Jones vs J Reid, 2013 (replies)

holland oats: Wow nice game for an old timer. He must have seen the grim reality after 34...Rd1+ 35.Kh2 Rd8 36.Rf6 Qh5 (or other queen moves) 37.Qb5 and the black king's path home is cutoff: [DIAGRAM]

Jul-29-13 Bologan vs Bacrot, 2001 (replies)

holland oats: Anyone know what the line is from Bacrot? I saw the threat of 26.Qf5 and 27.Qh7+ creating a mating net, but black of course has 26...Ne5! creating a shield for g7 and immune to capture due to white's weaknesses on c2 and e4. I also see that 26.Qf5 Ne5 27.hxg7 Bxg7 28.Rxh7 Re8 ...

holland oats: Or maybe a medium spirit, e.g. sherry
