   Feb-02-17 Karpov vs Timman, 1988

hoodrobin: It was a beauty prize for Karpov (Queen sacrifice). However Timman had the advantage before <22...Nc6?>. Had he played <22...c6!> he could have won (Timman).

   Feb-02-17 Karpov vs Timman, 1988

hoodrobin: According to Timman <56...Rc3!> would give a draw.

Jan-29-17 Karpov vs Timman, 1986 (replies)

hoodrobin: <Timman's Titans> reports 19...Be6 as the move played.

Jan-28-17 W So vs Wei Yi, 2017 (replies)

hoodrobin: <offramp: This game will set a record as the shortest time ever taken to complete a scoresheet header.> A GM header? Hoping not a draw.

Jun-11-15  mistermac: I see you have no correspondence eother. Is this place dying. The only fun I have really had here is the "World v" games.

I do miss DcGentle. But, he was offended by me by something I wrote. I did not take his side in a dispute, but it was not personal. he has a lot to contribute.

I miss DcGentle too (not your fault imo). We lost perhaps some spirit and a few bits of life of our own lives. Can it be something about growing older? How in Sidney, Australia?
Keep going, all the same.
BTW your actual avatar is so artful, but your old one was fascinating...

hoodrobin: Caruana is now the man. Too bad he's not from England.
Jun-19-15  mistermac: Sydney, Australia, is wet and cold at this time of year. I came from NZ, as you seem to suspect, and it has a reputation for being cold, especially in the southern regionsl, but Sydney which is only photographed in brilliant sunshine, has an image of warm and sunny. My advice to anyone who comes in winter is to bring some woolies, as it can be very cold, damp and windy. The best months in Sydney are in Autumn, not too hot, and fairly calm.

As for my avatar, I regret getting rig of my original, of Don Auixote, but I abandones it, and someone else grabbed it.

It was nither artful of fascinating, but reflected me, the distracted dreamer.

As fo Caruana, he seems a very level headed young man.

You are fascinated by England, aren't you?

I am currently rereading "the Ordeal of Gilbert Pinfold" a very funny novel by Evelyn Waugh, who as you will be aware, is an Englishman of the male variety.

Keep your arrows feathered, Robin!

hoodrobin: Just posted at your forum <mister>.
Jul-17-15  mistermac: I also read "Scoop" by Waugh, and it too is a hoot. (Hoot may be a new word for you. It means really absurdly funny).

But, my main reason for writing is to tell you that there is snow and cold in Eastern Australia. It has caused widespread disruption to the main roads. Winter here is never warm, but this is really cold, and miserable.

Pity us, my friend!

hoodrobin: <Hoot!> This <is> my name, courtesy of the Premium Member <jessicafischerqueen>. Here it is never cold even in winter but now in summer (this year) it is really really hot! No disruption but big discomfort.
Aug-23-15  mistermac: Well, Hoot, congratulations on being the leader of Team White. It is also a huge responsibility.

hoodrobin: Hey <mac>! Team Black played very well.
May-01-16  mistermac: You asked in a post to my forum my opinion on Magnus Carlsen.

I have to say that, in terms of technical ability, I feel he is not all that far ahead of other Super GM's.

Where, however, he shines is in his enormous competitive spirit, determination, and stamina.

Those qualities may well see him stay at the top for a long time, and anyone who might best him, will find that Magnus would come back even harder to attempt retake the title later.

The coming match could be very interesting. But, Magnus has to be favorite to retain his title.

But, that is all a patzer's opinion. He may indeed turn out to be really great.

  hoodrobin: Thanks for sharing.
I can't see for now any serious competitor, and that's all I can say. Karjakin? We'll see. I think Anand was really great.
Nov-14-16  mistermac: Have a beer, Hoody.

Prosit!

Nov-25-16  mistermac: What do you think of the match?

It has been quite interesting, even the draws.

hoodrobin: Just read your post(s) <mistermac>. Prosit! The match showed that Carlsen was always in control imo. Happy holidays to you!
