I am a boat. Also a horse. As such, I am amphibious, which comes in handy more often than you'd think. Sometimes I drink when I play chess. Sometimes I play chess when I drink. I enjoy the English, the Pirc, the Muzio, and the games of Morphy, Blackburne, and Capa. I probably don't enjoy dealing with you, however. But maybe I do, it's a possibility, certainly. Address all complaints about me to Mr. Crossman.

   Aug-22-11 Spassky vs H Niedermayr, 1986

horseboat: Judging by this game and his career record, it would appear that it was Neidermayr himself who was "worthless and weak"...

   Aug-14-11 Timman vs Nunn, 1983

horseboat: I'm not sure which I enjoy more: the great game or the great(er?) pun.

horseboat: Also, a beautiful synthesis of tactics and exploiting strategic weaknesses. Classic Capablanca, and why he's just about the best. None of this Anderssen "develop a bunch of pieces, then sack them and trust that a mate will develop" stuff for Capa; superior positions will yield ...

horseboat: Horribly botched endgame by Morphy. Perhaps this is why he's not a LIFE Master, no?

   Jul-15-11 Znosko-Borovsky vs J A Seitz, 1931 (replies)

horseboat: The ol' Troitzky position rears its ugly head, eh? The pawn can be blockaded easily and only allowed to move when it helps Black by preventing stalemate. As long as the pawn is blockaded on or before before the line a4-b3-c4-d4-e4-f4-g3-h4, Black can convert for a win without a ...

   Jul-15-11 A Sulypa vs Kupreichik, 1989 (replies)

horseboat: Personally, I don't really give two figs one way or the other, but both Anglicizing and a more literal transliteration have good arguments to support them. I just feel it's a bit harsh to insist that the clear trend in academia and elsewhere towards more direct transliteration ...
