   Aug-19-14 F Armbrust vs Shirov, 2014

howlwolf: Darek: Shirov may have not played completely up to par but the young man played a fine game and had the initiative from the get-go, so his good play should get most of the credit for the result.

   Jun-26-14 D Fleetwood vs I Mackintosh, 2006 (replies)

howlwolf: Doesn't anyone here remember Peter Green, founding member of Fleetwood Mac and writer of Black Magic Woman, Rattlesnake Shake, Love that burns, Green Manalishi and ranked by rolling Stone as one of the top blues guitarists of all time. Or even Mystery to Me, with Bob Welch. All of ...

   Jun-26-14 Savon vs H Ree, 1965 (replies)

howlwolf: Doesn't 20 Nf5 instead of Qg5+ win as well. Qxd5 loses to Nh6 mate and if either .. Nf6, Nh6+ will pick up the queen with check if the black king goes to h8 and with the knight pinned if it goes to g7.

   Jun-05-14 A Mallahi vs O Ganbold, 1999 (replies)

howlwolf: I too went with Ng7 and saw Qc8 Rxg7 30 Re8+ Kf7. On 29 ...Re5 30 Qh7+ Kf7 31 Nf5+ and if Ke6 Qg6+ seems to win the day and if Kf8 Qh8+ is crushing as well.

   May-28-14 S Williams vs C Marcelin, 2014 (replies)

howlwolf: I looked at this game yesterday and now it is GOTD.

   May-27-14 Kramnik vs G Tunik, 1989 (replies)

howlwolf: Chancho and Perfidious, That is an excellent point; didn't mean to be unfair to the lad.

May-27-14 P Darini vs Le Quang Liem, 2014

howlwolf: A very nice counter-punching game by black.

   May-22-14 T Petenyi vs Bacrot, 2014 (replies)

howlwolf: Sometimes I leap before I look; I am at work so I don't spend much time solving. I went with an immediate 50 h4 seeing that 51 Qh4 Rh1+ 52 Kg3 Qe1+ 53Kg4 Qd2 pockets the rook, not realizing that white then has a perpetual. If Black presses for a win with 53...f5+ 54Kg5 Qd2 55Qh6+ ...

   May-13-14 T Gareyev vs Akobian, 2014 (replies)

howlwolf: I think taking the h pawn was a mistake because it stranded the knight on the rim where it almost got trapped, and Gareev had to go through some contortions just to save it from being trapped. Those contortions allowed Akopian's pieces to get extremely active. I think this is a ...

   May-09-14 J Friedel vs Lenderman, 2014 (replies)

howlwolf: I wonder why white didn't play Re4? If you exchange both sets of rooks the white h pawn is a little weak but white can guard with Be1. If black tries to avoid the exchange of one set of rooks, with Rc7 after Re4 he can probably win the h pawn but whites rook will get to the 7th and
