I'm an expert (2100), dropped out of chess for a loooong time (since about 1990 when I reached Master ranking), active again the last year.

   May-28-19 A Shimanov vs Carlsen, 2018
johnkr: drieper -- Yes that's a very nice trick that most people (inc. Carlsen) could miss -- that 45...Bd8 is a deflection that stops the perpetual.
   May-18-19 D Dubov vs A Giri, 2019 (replies)
johnkr: Hey I know that chessgames has to support itself by doing advertising but I'm looking at a big sexy booty here. Not appropriate for a chess web site?
Apr-22-19 Naiditsch vs Svidler, 2019 (replies)
johnkr: Also like the winning idea, a Queen RETREAT from b2 to b5 -- nice.
   Apr-22-19 Naiditsch vs Svidler, 2004
johnkr: Call this game "Working on those knight moves!"
   Mar-18-19 Speelman vs A Firouzja, 2019
johnkr: Very clever trap! After 12. Qb3? (better 12 Nbd2) Na5! 13 Qb4 Bd3 14 Rc1 Bxc4! because of 15 Rxc4? Nd5. Oops! This kid is really good.
   Jan-30-19 Carlsen vs J K Duda, 2019 (replies)
johnkr: Peter Svidler in his game analysis fingers Magnus' 43 Kc3 as inaccurate if black had found 43 ... Rd5! 44 Bc2 Rbd8 and now the Rook can enter d2, e.g. 45 a5 Rd2 46 Nf4 46 Rf2! with play. The engines seem to agree, White has now only a small plus. Granted it's not easy to find.
   Jan-21-19 Carlsen vs R Rapport, 2019 (replies)
johnkr: GAme is difficult to analyze. It just seemed to me that Black never had very much counterplay. And it occurs to me that the position is similar to a game from Bronstein's book about Zurich Tournament 1953, which is the game Najdorf-Petrosian. In that game Black's hope for counterplay
   Dec-17-18 Karpov vs Browne, 1972
johnkr: Yes epiglott -- you say According to Karpov, 18.dxc5 dxc5 19.Rcd1 would've been stronger " Not just according to Karpov, but Stockfish also (+.98) and it makes a lot of sense, when you realize that Black's c5 is a weakling. So after this miss, Karpov had to work. But still a ...
   Aug-17-18 W So vs Aronian, 2018
johnkr: A game in full! I especially like the positions after Aronian Q lost. But what I really want to say is: people should look at the game and ask: why is white better after, for example, move 35? Largely it's because White's rooks are so well placed, on open files while Black is ...
   May-27-18 Akobian vs D Aldama Degurnay, 2015
johnkr: Really 0-1? Why? Engine says this position is =, did White flag?
