 | | WarmasterKron: I'll see you there, <kellmano>. Are you going to be getting there for the start? |
 |
| Aug-07-08 | | mack: I'm only back in London on 15 August - are either of you likely to be watching any of the last three rounds? |
 |
Aug-07-08
 | | WarmasterKron: <mack> I'd be able to make the rounds on the 16th and 17th, otherwise I'll be working. |
 |
| Aug-07-08 | | mack: Wickedo. 16th, then? |
 |
Sep-03-08
 | | WarmasterKron: I arrived at Simpsons quite late on the 8th, so I must have missed you. I didn't hang around that long, either. I did meet up with mack on the 16th, though. Played a few casual games in the bar and managed to win a single game - against a 7 year old boy. |
 |
Sep-05-08
 | | kellmano: <Kron> It's a well known fact that 7 year old boys are the hardest to beat. |
 |
Sep-06-08
 | | WarmasterKron: They're easier to beat than mack - for a start they don't tend to play sodding 1...g6! |

| Jun-02-09 | | zanshin: <<Zanshin> Do you view these examples as anomolies, or are you trying to suggest that computers are not as good as we think they are? Personally, I would very much go for the former.> <kellmano> Thanks for your note. Most of the examples in my header were taken from Robin Smith 2004 Modern Chess Analysis. His inspiration is <Computers are incredibly fast, accurate, and stupid; humans are incredibly slow, inaccurate and brilliant; together they are powerful beyond imagination. - Albert Einstein> He disputes that Einstein said this, but he agrees completely with the statement. And that is the point of the examples: to show situations where engines are weak in order to use them most effectively. A follow-up to your question might be: How often do these positions arise? I would say: "Quite often." Take the example of quiet positions. How often are you in a game where "there is nothing to do"? A human player tries to find something to do, ie by making a long term plan yielding an advantage. A computer does not, so it will come up with typical moves like shuffling Rooks from one square to another. When you recognize this, you are aware the recommended move or line may be useless and can explore other forms of analysis (eg sliding forward to test your plan). |

 | | OhioChessFan: A quick look at your puzzle shows me that Black wants to get his Bishop to d5 or f3 and the White King can stop only one at a time. I suppose that's the theme. |

 | | OhioChessFan: Okay. When you have a passed Pawn, push it. Then Black gets tangled up on c2 and White wins. |

Thanks for posting a different interpretation of my question on Nigel Short's page. I got the impression he has been asked before and does not want to hear such questions anymore! |

| May-01-10 | | Sim1: Kellmano,
I am from the Brighton and Hove chess club. If you want to play OTB then come to the club 7pm on Wednesdays and 2pm on saturdays! Best

 |
| May-01-10 | | Sim1: Murali actually put in quite strong performance in the Mid-Sussex Chess league this year. He also comes to our club on occasion although he plays for another team. Anyway, I will turn on my personal forum to avoid blocking up this page too much with chatter. |
