Ground Control to Major Tom
Ground Control to Major Tom
Take your protein pills and put your helmet on

Ground Control to Major Tom
Commencing countdown, engines on
Check ignition and may God's love be with you

Ten, Nine, Eight, Seven, Six, Five, Four, Three, Two, One, Lift off

This is Ground Control to Major Tom
You've really made the grade
And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear Now it's time to leave the capsule if you dare

This is Major Tom to Ground Control
I'm stepping through the door
And I'm floating in a most peculiar way
And the stars look very different today

For here
Am I sitting in a tin can
Far above the world
Planet Earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do

Though I'm past one hundred thousand miles
I'm feeling very still
And I think my spaceship knows which way to go
Tell my wife I love her very much she knows

Ground Control to Major Tom
Your circuit's dead, there's something wrong
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you...

Here am I floating round my tin can
Far above the Moon
Planet Earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do
Now I am a traveler from both time and space

Overprotection is a waste of resources and therefore idiotic

Overprotection is over rated.

I just noticed your Major Tom lyrics. Were you a fan of David Bowie? I sure was the first time I heard his music on The Man Who Sold the World. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSH.... Mick Ronson's guitar is beautiful here. Of all the rock guitarists, Ronson played more in the spirit of the song rather than showing off.

Bowie proceeded to create dozens of great rock and roll songs.

lost in space: Hi <Boomie>,long time no hear :-)

No, I was not a fan of David Bowie, but i really like a few of his songs , Major Tom is one of them.

Back in 2008 I was just thinking about my handle here at Chessgames.com and then there was this wonderful song in the radio - Major Tom (yes, back then there was radios). Me as fan of everything related to the ocean around planet earth was inspired to the handle „Lost in space“.

Beside the songs I like Bowie for his support to Iggy Pop during there time in Berlin. The saves his life - I think.

Quite happy with the result. I was too often wrong with the decided games. I overrated (in this tournament) So and Ian, I underrated MVL and Swidler

The fist few days very good (over 60%), afterwards 2 bad days (before and after the rest days), afterwards better again.

Next time hopefully in sum better.

lost in space: an other quick Blitz win of mine - from this Friday. I was Black

1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bb5 Nf6 4. Nc3 Bb4

Not the most interesting opening. But normally I do to play 1...e5 after 1. e4

5. 0-0 d6 6. a3 Ba5 7. b4 Bb6 8. Na4 0-0 9. Bxc6 bxc6 10. Qe2 Re8 11. Ra2

Why this? I have no clue. Also a few other moves were not precise, but 11. Ra2 is strange.

11...d5 12. exd5 cxd5 (?)

12...e4! was much stronger

13. Bb2 d4 14. Re1 (?)

Instead 14. c4 was o.k.

14...e4! 15. Ng5 Qd5! 16. Nxb6 axb6 17. Nxf7 Bg4! 18. f3 exf3 19. Nh6+ gxh6 20. c4 Rxe2 21. cxd5 f2+! 22. Kh1 Rxe1#

lost in space: Here - played at the same day - my quickest win ever in a blitz game. I was white.

1. Nf3 d5 2. c4 dxc4 3. Na3 c5 4. Nxc4 Nc6 5. g3 b5 6. Nce5 Bb7?

Black expected 7. Bg2 Nxe5 0-1 or 7. Nxc6 Bxc6 8. Bg2 with a =position. But:

7. Qb3! Nxe5 8. Nxe5 c4 9. Qxb5+ Bc6 10. Qxc6+

1:0.

lost in space: Here a nice end position I had recently. Blitz, I can not recall the complete game. It was a Caro Cann. I was black.

lost in space: Here a new game of minne as white, as mostly from a blitz game. I am posting here games were I was satisfied with my play, not necessarily a good game, when my opponent made mistakes. This is one example of such a game.

1. Nf3 d5 2. d4 Nf6 3. c4 e6 4. Nc3 Be7 5. Bg5 0-0 6. e3 h6 7. Bh4 Ne4 8. Bxe7 Qxe7 9. Rc1 Nc6

Not the best. Nc6 blocks the c-pawn.

10. a3 Nxc3 11. Rxc3 Bd7 12. cxd4 exd4 13. Bd3 h5(?!) 14. 0-0 (?!)

Better was 14. Qb3

14...h4 (?!) 15. h3 (again, Qb3 was better) 15...Rae8? 16. b4 a5 17. b5 Na7(?) 18. Rxc7 Nxb5?

Seems that this was the resource black was counting on

19. Bxb5 ( Bd7 is pinned) 19...Rd8 20. Ne5 b6 21. Nxd7 Rxd7 22. Rxc7 Qxa3 23. Qh5 a4 24. Qxd5 Qb4 25. Bc4 a3 26. Rxf7 a2 27. Rxf8 1:0

Mate to fallow after 27...Kxf8 28. Qf7# or 27...Kh7 28. Qh5#

lost in space: Here from the same day - last Friday - a blitzgame with me as Black. Normally I do not play the French, that explains the wobbly play in the opening.

1. e4 e6 2. d4 d5 3. Nc3 Bb4 4. e5 c5 5. a3 Bxc3 6. bxc3 Ne7 7. Qg4 Nc6 8. Qxg7 Rg8 9. Qxh7 cxd4 10. Ne2

I know 10. Nf3. From here on I was out of book. I was not sure if 10...dxc3 or 10... Nxe5 is better and decided for the second best option; I also thought about 10...Qa5 11. Bd2 Qc5 12. Qd3 and thought that this is better for white.

10...Nxe5 11. f4 (11. cxd4 is better) 11...Nc4 12. cxd4 Qc7? (better was Qa5+) 13. Rb1(?) b6 14. Bb2(?) Ba6 15. h4 Nxb2 16. Rxb2 Bxe2 17. Be2 Qc3+ 18. Kd1 Qxb2 19. f5 Qxd4+ 20. Ke1 Qxc3+ 21. Kd1 22. Nxf5

I like that move, even though there are stronger once in that position

22. Qxg8+ Ke7 23. Qxa8? Ne3+ 24 Kc1 Qxc2#

  lost in space: Here an other miniature from one of my blitz games. I was white. 1. c4 Nf6 2. g3 e5 3. Bg2 c6 4. Nf3 d5 5. cxd5 e4 6. Ng5?!

(6. Nd4 is better)

6...Qxd5 7. Nh3 Qh5?! 8. Nf4 Qg4? 9. Bh3! 1:0

lost in space: In the previous game I missed 5. Nxe5. Me idiot.I was wondering why I am out of book so soon in one of „my“ lines.

lost in space: Here a position out of a blitz game of mine from last Friday. I was white and I found myself in trouble - at least I thought so:

Last move was 17...Qd6.

I would like to ply 18. 0-0 but I would lose a piece. What is about 18. Rxc8 Rxc8 19. Qc6! and there is no significant adavantage

What is with 18. Bxh7+? I pity thought is is no good because it there is 18...Kh8 19. Rxc8 Rxc8 20. Qb1? Qxe5 and Black wins.

I took me quite a white so see 20. Nf7#

So with only a few seconds on the clock it play this line
