From Sevilla (Spain), born in fifties. Chemical analyst, working in a official Drinking Water Quality Control laboratory. So take care, I'm a G-man!

Eye-witness in some games of Kasparov-Karpov WCC Sevilla 1987. Being a pre-teenager, I also watched a couple of games of Petrosian-Huebner, Candidates 1971.

Active player in 80's, not anymore. It was too much for my nervous system.

I'm very interested in chess history. Favourite player is an ideal mix Capablanca-Nimzovich-Smyslov. Two logical and clear minds and, in the middle, some drops of Nimzo eccentricity.

Favorite Quote: I was the walrus, but now I'm John. (John Lennon, 1971).

Chess is only my second passion. I am a proud supporter of my local football team, glorious SEVILLA F.C.:

********** 2006 UEFA CUP CHAMPION **********
********* 2006 UEFA SUPER-CUP WINNER *********
********** 2007 UEFA CUP CHAMPION **********
******** 2007 SPAIN KING'S CUP CHAMPION ********

Sorry my bad English.

Nov-12-09   NakoSonorense: Roberto Carlos produced some nice goals, such as this one:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDRD...

But my all-time favorite has got to be the one he scored from the endline:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ZkR...

How did he do it?! Simply amazing.

Nov-14-09   azaris: First leg of the World Cup qualifying playoffs today. Nations qualified so far:

TheAlchemist: 2-1 for Russia in a pretty bad game overall, at some point it could have been 3-0 just as it was almost 2-2 at the end. We still have a chance now, I hope for the best.

meloncio: <azaris><Nations qualified> New Zealand for the first time since WC 1982. I was at the stadium when they played (and lost 4-0) against Brazil in Sevilla. This is one of the goals, Zico's:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68FF...

<The Alchemist> You're right, Slovenia almost got 2-2 at the very end. I guess Russia will find a "hell" in Maribor.

Nov-14-09   azaris: <New Zealand> They will clearly be favorites to win, having dispatched Bahrain, New Caledonia, Fiji, and Vanuatu to quality.
Nov-14-09   Jim Bartle: Talk about bad luck. Bosnia hit the post twice in three seconds in the 90th minute against Portugal.
Nov-14-09   falso contacto: Fair win by Spain. I must say congratulations. Good to see Navas and Perotti playing. You had a considerable edge on the bench.
Not talking about the seats.

meloncio: <falso contacto><You had a considerable edge on the bench. Not talking about the seats.> I know, I know. IMO Navas should have been in the national team a few years before, but he has/had some psychological problems.
Nov-15-09   NakoSonorense: On the other side of the ocean, last night Uruguay beat Costa Rica 1-0 in the first game of qualifying playoff for the final seat from the Americas. Nothing surprising, except that some "ticos" still believe that they have a shot at winning in the Estadio Centenario.

meloncio: Yesterday Betis got another ridiculous achievement. Player Juande (a funny name) came into the pitch at min.70, and thirty seconds later was sent off after a heavy tackle, without touching the ball even once (!!) A new world record?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8NgC...

(See min. 5:50)

Nov-16-09   Jim Bartle: I once saw a relief pitcher come into a baseball game. He hit the batter with his first pitch, and was then taken out.
Nov-17-09   azaris: <The fastest sending off in British football is held by Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Kevin Pressman. The red card was shown to Pressman after just 13 seconds for handling a shot from Wolves' Temuri Ketsbaia outside the area, during the opening weekend of the 2001/2002 season.

Including substitutions Walter Boyd of Swansea was sent off in the fastest time in football history. Boyd came on to the pitch just as Swansea were about to take a free-kick. But before the kick was taken and the game resumed, he became involved with a scuffle on the edge of the box and punched one of his opponents. He was therefore shown the red card before the game restarted and was officially sent off after 0 seconds.>

There must be lots of instances of a sub coming in and immediately clattering into someone. At least in British football...

Nov-17-09   azaris: Thank goodness!

meloncio: <...and was officially sent off after 0 seconds.> LOL, he's number 1. There can be no argument about that.

I remember Paul Gascoigne being sent off in the very first play of a game, but I can't find it in Youtube. I think it was in a England Cup final, maybe early 90s. He got injured at the same time.

pawn to QB4: I agree, I was very sorry to see that...and I've got quite a few Irish mates, so I had been looking forward to taking the mickey. As for Thierry Henry, sad what he did to the Irish, sadder to see the stain on the great reputation he had over here. By the way, meloncio, think it might be Gascoigne in the 91/2 FA cup final, Tottenham v Nottingham Forest: put himself out of action for a year with a horrible foul on Gary Charles, ruptured his cruciate ligament. Not quite so early in the match, and he wasn't sent off...just carried off.

France - Ireland was an awful game and both deserved to be out IMO. Hard to see a game with an unknown and clumsy France, and Ireland with their classical rough style. I was worry only for 'my' Escudé after being carried off injured. Henry's hand is the least of it.

arsen387: never seen a player who after playing with hand received so many 'unkind' words to his address from all. The guy's not the first and surely not the last, also I don't think that Henry intended to play with hand, the ball just found his hand. If someone deserves those words, it's surely the side ref. And also did you notice that in the <Alchemist>'s video there's 303 views but 387 comments, never seen smth like that :)

btw, congrats to <Alchemist> for qualifying to WC, I watched the first half of the game, Slovenia played really much better.

Nov-19-09   azaris: Comments by Thierry Henry...

<"When you see he is offside it kills you. It kills you because you've been defending and running."

"It's just sad. You can lose, but to lose like that."

"If they allow an offside goal it is going to be even more difficult."

"We can be proud, we can be more than proud, but, I'm sorry, some of the refereeing today was horrendous.">

...after the Champions League final in 2006.
